Gotta wing it

Imagine soaring a couple hundred feet above the ground in your own personal aircraft. They’re called “short-hop adventure crafts” and they’re taking off. (Sorry, had to.) The electric BlackFly requires only seven days of training before you (not me) can take to the skies. Watch it in action!

3 must-have apps for dog owners

Whether you’ve got a new pup or a seasoned pro, these apps will make life easier with training tips, dog-friendly spots, and trusted pet sitters.

🥊 Musk vs. Apple + AI: Let me break this down. Musk just sued Apple and OpenAI, accusing them of teaming up to bury his xAI startup. He says Apple’s ChatGPT deal hands OpenAI billions of iPhone prompts for free training, while rivals like Grok get shoved down the App Store. Now he’s demanding billions in damages and a ban.

245.76 TB

The size of Kioxia’s new SSD. And it fits in one device. It’s made for AI and data center workloads where raw capacity beats flashy speed. Think: massive training datasets, not movie marathons. It sacrifices performance to keep signal integrity in check, but it’s perfect if your job is “store the internet.”

🐾 Need the perfect pet name? Let ChatGPT help! Tell it your pet’s breed, color and personality traits. If you’re a first-time owner, you can ask it for training tips, too. Just use your discretion, since, you know, AI hallucinations and all.

$0

The tuition cost at the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine. The Walmart heiress is footing the bill for the first five graduating classes at her brand-new med school, AWSOM, in Bentonville, Arkansas. It’s not charity, it’s a bet to prove that preventive care, art and a side of nutrition training can reshape health care. Call it Whole Foods meets Grey’s Anatomy.

1.8 million

The number of teachers now getting a crash course in AI. A new $23 million union-backed training academy, funded by Microsoft ($12.5M), OpenAI ($8M plus $2M in tech) and Anthropic ($500K), aims to make every AFT member fluent in AI. It’s like summer school for grown-ups.

About 2,000 runners

Took on the Atlanta Marathon, with some hoping to punch their ticket to Boston. But the course came up 554 feet short. Yep, someone goofed the route. That teensy error threw off finish times by up to 87 seconds, making them invalid for qualifying. So yeah, months of training … down the drain. Race organizers, you had one job.

Cash dive: It’s happening across the country. The NY Times spotlighted how UNC is turning its diving team into influencers with sponsorships, style guides and TikTok training. It’s all part of the school’s push to make every athlete a content creator. Imagine getting cut from the team for poor engagement and bot followers.

1 hour

The weekly amount of weight training needed to gain muscle. One study found just two 30-minute sessions a week helped participants get noticeably stronger and more jacked (paywall link), no five-day grind or bro science required. One set per exercise. Nine moves. That’s it. I hear you: “Instead of calling my bathroom the John, I call it the Jim. That way I can tell people I go to the Jim every morning.”

AI eats its own: Prompt engineer was tech’s hot new job title in 2023, featuring $300K salaries, fully remote work and bragging rights in Discord. Fast-forward to 2025: AI doesn’t need prompt engineers anymore. It writes its own prompts. Imagine training your replacement that never takes lunch breaks and doesn’t need caffeine. Congrats, prompt engineers, you played yourself, in natural language.

The number of bites of chicken per week that could start shaving years off your life, according to a new study. Congrats to all the vegans, you’ve been training for this moment. Turns out “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner” was actually a eulogy.

🧠 Google’s AI just learned Minecraft: They dropped it into the game with zero training on how to play and told it to find a diamond. After nine days of learning from scratch, “Dreamer” figured it out and was mining diamonds within 30 minutes (like an expert player). Folks, this isn’t just about gaming. It’s about teaching AI to think, adapt and act on its own. Slightly scary.

The future of robotics: A Swedish startup just built “Luna,” a robot dog that adapts like a human — no preprogrammed data, no training simulations. Instead, it’s one of the first examples of physical agentic AI, meaning it can think, make decisions and act on its own. Since it learns through experience, they’re going to hire a dog trainer to teach it. Wild. Watch it here.

Seniors are struggling with insomnia. Building muscle might help. Researchers looked at 24 trials with 2,045 folks 60 and over. They found strength and resistance training worked almost twice as well as just doing aerobic exercises. Turns out, mixing the two helped even less. Fun fact: People with insomnia are pretty cool. They’re up for anything.

🦆 Duck off: Tell that to your AI chatbot collecting data. Duck.ai is out of beta and lets you chat anonymously, for free, with no account required. You can use GPT-4o mini, o3-mini, Meta Llama 3.3, Mistral Small 3 and Claude 3 Haiku without worrying about your data being collected. Chats are fully anonymized, meaning they’ll never be used for AI training. Try it out.

No coworkers, no commute. Just you and the future of tech. Here’s how to get started.

🎣 Gone phishing: I’ve done this with my team. It’s just smart. More companies are phishing their own employees to see how easily they fall for scams. Some are scary, like fake Ebola outbreaks, and others are just plain mean, like a “lost puppy” in the parking lot (paywall link). A weak link can cost you your entire company, so you need to know who needs cybersecurity training.
