Resize Quick Notes on iPad: Need more space to read or jot something down? When a Quick Note is open, pinch outward with two fingers (just like zooming in on a photo) to make it bigger. To shrink it again, pinch inward. You can also drag it to any corner and keep working in your app.
Lost and found: Accidentally deleted a photo or video on your Mac? Don’t panic. Open your Photos app and click Recently Deleted in the sidebar. Find your lost file and hit Recover. You have 30 days to get it back. Btw, if you never looked there, do it now.
Clean up your Mac menu bar: See those icons at the top right of your screen? You can rearrange or remove them. To move one, hold Command and drag it left or right. To remove one, hold Command, drag it off the bar, and let go. FYI: This won’t delete the app, it only hides it.
📌 Pin your top emojis: No need to scroll to find your faves. On a Mac, press Fn (or Globe key) + E or Edit > Emoji & Symbols to open the Character Viewer. If the viewer is collapsed, click the Expand button (top right). Pick an emoji you love and hit Add to Favorites.
📌 Stickies on Mac: Doing research in Safari and want to save bits as you go? Highlight any text and press Command + Shift + Y to turn it into a sticky note. You can drag it to the side while you work. When you’re done, go to Stickies > File > Export All to Notes. It’ll be saved under Imported Notes.
🖱️ Drag URLs on Mac: In Safari, you don’t need to copy and paste. If you want to share a link, just left-click and drag the address bar straight into your email. It works for links on a page, too. Want to share a restaurant menu? Just drag the link into the message without opening it.
Stack iPad widgets: Want weather for two locations? Add the Weather widget twice: Tap and hold the Home Screen, hit Edit, then Add Widget. Drag one onto the other to stack them. Tap and hold the stack, select Edit Weather and set a location for each. Now just swipe through to view both.
AirPods keep falling out? You’re not imagining it. Series 3 and 4 have a chunkier shape that doesn’t sit as well, especially if you’re moving around. Try this: Pop it in, then twist it a bit so the stem points toward your mouth. Now it won’t fly out mid-jog.
🍏 Clean up your iPad apps: Swipe all the way right to open the App Library. Tap the search bar at the top to see an A–Z list of every app on your device. Long-press any app and select Delete App to clear out the ones you don’t use anymore. FYI: Some system apps can’t be removed.
⌨️ Safari shortcuts: Want to move faster in your browser? Press Command + Up Arrow to jump to the top of a page, or Command + Down Arrow to scroll straight to the bottom. Need to go back or forward? Press Command + [ to go back a page, and Command + ] to move forward again.
Master iPad gestures: In any app, swipe up from the bottom to return to the Home screen. Swipe sideways on the bottom bar to switch between apps. Want the Dock? Swipe up slowly from the bottom. You can also drag an app from the Dock to the side to multitask in a new window.
Resize iPhone apps: Want your Home Screen icons bigger or smaller? Long-press anywhere on the Home Screen, tap Edit (top left), then hit Customize. When the menu pops up, pick Small for compact icons or Large for bigger ones. FYI: The Large setting will hide the app names.
Jump to Mac settings fast: Don’t feel like digging through menus? Just right-click the System Settings icon in your Dock to get an alphabetical list of options. Click what you need and go straight there. Bonus: Press Command + Space to open Spotlight, then type the setting you’re after.
🔦 Light it up: Your iPhone’s flashlight has more brightness levels than the default sun mode. Hold down the flashlight button and drag the slider up or down. Sweet. Btw, you can also say, “Siri, turn on the flashlight” when you need it (and tell her to turn it off, too).
Fix cramped handwriting on iPad: Used your Apple Pencil and wrote your words too close together? No need to erase. Just tap and hold between the words with your Pencil. When the vertical line appears, drag to space them out as much as you want. Quick, easy and no do-overs needed.
Better iPhone videos: Head to Settings > Camera > Record Video and pick 4K at 60 fps. Then go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose High Efficiency. For better framing, go to Camera > Composition and turn on Grid and Level. Your shots will look way better.
🍏 Turn websites into apps on iPad: Visit a site often? Save it as an app on your Home Screen. Open Safari > go to the site > tap the Share button (top right) > select Add to Home Screen > rename it > and hit Add. Bonus: You can also drag the new website icon(s) into your Dock and group them together.
Boost iPhone downloads: When you download multiple apps at once, your iPhone tries to install them all together. That’s fine on fast Wi-Fi, but not great if your connection is spotty. To speed up the one you need, go to App Library > Recently Added > long-press the app > tap Prioritize Download. It’ll go first.
⚡️ 3-second tech genius: Send your exact location via text: Tap the “i” or “+” in your Messages app and choose “Send My Location.”
📱 For your phone: Swipe down on your home screen to open quick settings like Bluetooth, Airplane mode and Do Not Disturb. Even better, you can customize what’s there. On Android, hit the pencil icon. On iPhone, head to Settings > Control Center.
