Lots of folks got rid of their expensive cable in hopes of saving a buck. Now, streaming costs more than cable ever did.
Sick of QuickBooks? There’s a better way!

Stop fighting with spreadsheets and trying to figure out what the heck you did with last year’s inventory list. I have the solution — my sponsor, NetSuite by Oracle.
You get visibility and control of your financials, inventory, HR, planning, budgeting, and more — all from one easy dashboard. Don’t just take my word for it — over 37,000 businesses already use NetSuite.
Lower IT costs, less work and higher profits? Yes, please. Right now, you can get started with NetSuite with no payments and no interest for six months. (Big deal alert: It’s never had an offer like this before!)
The big lie: Cutting the cable
Feeling the sting of sky-high cloud costs: Here’s a smart move — switch to Oracle. Companies are saving up to 50% on their cloud bills without sacrificing performance. Want to see how much you could save? Check it out for yourself.
$5,750
That’s how much Jeff Bezos’ future wife Lauren Sánchez’s coffee cup costs. Well, sort of. It’s actually a special designer Balenciaga handbag called the “9 AM Clutch.” Dumb.
Got this question from Sharon in Chicago: “How much can I make selling books on Amazon?” Be careful how you price your books. For e-books priced between $2.99 and $9.99, you’ll get 70% in royalties. Anything above or below that range drops your royalties to 35%. For paperbacks, you’ll get 60% of the list price (minus printing costs, which depend on page count, size and color). What a novel way to make a living!
Sick of your cloud bill eating your budget alive? I negotiated with Oracle to bring you a limited-time offer to slash your cloud costs. We’re talking 50% off or more. Why keep overpaying when you can run faster, leaner and smarter? This is your shot to take control and keep more cash in your pocket. Don’t miss it.

💸 Not a bad side hustle: Twentysomethings are making up to $36,000 a year by renting their everyday items like T-shirts, speakers and lawn mowers. On the clothing app Pickle, for example, a Cult Gaia dress that normally costs $898 can be yours temporarily for $100 (paywall link). Dang, my garage full of “investments” could be a passive income gold mine.
🇺🇲 Stars, stripes and sticker shock: Want a “Made in the USA” iPhone? Be ready to shell out as much as $3,500. Labor costs alone could bump the price up 25%. Apple CEO Tim Cook hasn’t ruled out the idea of making phones here in the States, but it would take years to pull off. Buy once, cry at least twice.

I’m sexy and I mow it: The Segway Navimow i105N is a wireless robot lawn mower that can zip around your yard and dodge obstacles (and dog poop). It’s pretty quiet at just 58 decibels. Think a humming refrigerator. The downside: It costs $999.

Sometimes life is eye-ronic: Google’s AI assistant Gemini can now “see” and use your camera in real time. Point it at your dying houseplant for tips on how to save it, or ask what is the water dripping from your car’s engine. (I did that, and it was 100% right!) It costs $20/month to use it. ChatGPT does the same for $20/month, too.

🌐 Starlink who? Alphabet’s photonic chip beams 10-gig internet through the air using light beams. Yes, really. It could bring high-speed connections to remote areas (without messy fiber cables) starting this year. It has more bandwidth than a Starlink antenna and costs less. Your move, Elon.
Craigslist scam: The guy listed a luxury Palm Beach apartment for $950/month (red flag because it actually costs $5,200/month), and a couple took the bait. The scammer gave them a tour and handed over the keys so it seemed legit. Turns out the real owner had left them in the door for a handyman. Argh.
Google Search is dying
Younger people are turning to AI chatbots, TikTok and Reddit for answers instead. Gen-Z is also sticking with older cars to avoid new tech and high costs. Plus, Chipotle is using robots for avocado prep, and we’ll show you how to turn your smart TV into a photo frame.
Amazon's secret profit center
Streaming costs are spiraling, but Amazon’s secret fees are the real eye-opener. What started as a simple $79 Prime membership has ballooned into a $22 billion profit machine — without most people even realizing it.
The Echo is a resounding success: Amazon is yanking the main feature of the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition: Showing your photos endlessly. Starting Sept. 23, it will display ads after three hours. Btw, this model costs $10 extra, plus there’s a $2 monthly subscription. I’d be mad, too.
Why cutting the cable was all BS
What started as a way to dodge high cable bills has turned into a tangled mess of streaming subscriptions, each with its own costs.
