🏠 How to search rentals and book apartment tours with AI
Zillow is a connected app on both Gemini and ChatGPT, so you can find listings and schedule tours just by asking. Here’s the 60-second setup, the prompt to try first and the privacy catch.
ChatGPT/Kim Komando
I need your help: Add Komando.com as a preferred source on Google
What’s new: Apartment hunting normally takes 12 tabs, a spreadsheet and a landlord who answers email once a week. Google just shrunk part of that. Zillow Rentals became a Connected App in Gemini, which means Gemini can pull live rental listings and give you a Book a tour button in the same conversation.
You describe what you want the way you’d say it out loud. Two bedrooms, under $2,500, Austin, in-unit laundry, available Aug. 1. Gemini comes back with filtered listings and tour times you can grab without switching apps.
Zillow was one of the launch partners for apps in ChatGPT. That was for homes for sale. Gemini goes further with rentals with tour booking.
Rental bookings on Gemini
It’s free, works on the web and the Gemini app for iPhone and Android, though it’s U.S. only for now.
⏱️ The 60-second setup:
- Open Gemini on the web or in the app, tap your profile icon > Settings > Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps.
- Find Zillow in the list > toggle it on > Approve the permissions screen when it appears.
- Ask your first question in the chat box, like: Find me pet-friendly rentals in Seattle under $3,000.
Don’t see Zillow in that list? It isn’t broken. Google is rolling this out over several weeks, so check back.
Zillow Research on ChatGPT
ChatGPT handles rentals and homes for sale, but the difference is the last mile. Gemini lets you see available tour times and book one inside the chat. ChatGPT shows you the apartment, then sends you to Zillow to finish scheduling the tour. Still fewer tabs. Just not quite tab extinction.
⏱️ The 60-second setup:
- Open ChatGPT > open the Plugins directory.
- Views differ: Either Left sidebar > Plugins or Profile icon > Settings > Plugins
- Search Zillow > open it > tap Connect and review what information may be shared.
- Start a new chat and type @Zillow. You can also tap the + button > More > Zillow.
📋 Try this prompt
Search two-bedroom apartments in [city] under $2,800 with a gym, available next month. Give me the three best options with links, tell me what’s missing from each listing and show me which ones have the soonest available tour times.
⚠️ The catch: Free, U.S. only and rolling out in waves, so it may not be live on your account yet. It’s also a connection, which means a third party is now in your chat. Zillow sees what you search. Google says connected apps only access what you ask them to and you can revoke access whenever you want. Go to Settings, Connected Apps and toggle off. Rental listings go stale fast. Treat what AI shows you as a starting list and confirm the unit exists before you rearrange your Saturday for a tour.
