Job site comparison: LinkedIn vs. ZipRecruiter vs. Craigslist

Where do you look for your next career move? There are several job boards, but which is right for you?

Let’s look at a few places job seekers go online and find the right one for your needs.

1. Craigslist

This website is a way to find local candidates without breaking the bank. It’s one of the world’s most popular classified ad sites and can connect candidates with employers in around 70 countries.

When you post a job on this job board, you know it’ll attract a lot of attention. It’s estimated that more than 100 million people visit the site monthly in America alone.

Interestingly, while it lets users in some countries post job openings for free, that option’s not available in the U.S. When American employers post a job, they pay fees ranging from $10 to $75, depending on the location.

Posting is simple. First, create a free account with your email address and set your location based on where you’re hiring. Create a job posting and select the job offered. Then, pick a category for your job post. Then, you can start writing your post.

While it’s great that you can easily publish a job posting for a small amount, know there’s a trade-off. You’re likely to attract unqualified candidates simply because of the number of people using this website. If you’ve ever used a free job board or posted to Craigslists, you already know wading through dozens of resumes is a time strain.

For this reason, we recommend sticking with LinkedIn, which offers some specialized features to help you filter out folks who lack the skills you’re looking for.

2. ZipRecruiter

Here’s another popular site that job seekers flock to when looking for a change of pace. Betterteam reports over 30 million job seekers turn to ZipRecruiter every month.

Stop using the buttons on your Echo: Instead, say, “Alexa, volume up” to increase the volume slightly or “Volume down” to make it quieter. You can also say, “Alexa, turn the volume to five” for more precise control. Choose a number from one to 10. Another great commando? “Alexa, play The Kim Komando Show.”

Account for almost half of Nvidia’s revenue, or about $100 billion so far in 2024. So who are they? They’re not talking, but my bet is on some combo of Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Tesla. I’m saddened to report Komando isn’t on the list.

Mary in Los Angeles recently wrote to me with a question I’m getting more and more:

“Is my husband cheating on me with an AI bot? … I went through his phone and saw some shady texts on an app called Replika. I don’t want to jump to conclusions, but I wouldn’t put it past him.”

No one knows for sure, but 10,000 steps per day might be the suggested standard based on the Japanese character for 10,000. Looks like someone running or walking to me.
