That glance at your screen isn’t as subtle as you think. Find out why top CEOs are calling the habit disrespectful and implementing new rules.
That 'quick text' is making your boss furious
Love, loss & lies: Here’s your daily dose of “aww … ouch.” Larry, a 71-year-old from California, loses his wife, gets a wrong-number text and somehow ends up falling for “Tina,” a woman who claimed to trade crypto and sip Napa wine. Three months later? His $1 million life savings was gone. Turns out “Tina” was really good at pretending to care.
📩 Gmail icons explained: Those tiny icons above your emails can be confusing. Switch them to plain text, so it’s clear what each one does. Go to See all settings > General > Button labels, change it to Text, then click Save changes. You’ll now see words like Archive, Delete and Mark as unread.
iOS 26.1 is out: Hate the Liquid Glass design? Head to Settings > Display & Brightness > Liquid Glass to choose between Clear and Tinted. Clear keeps that translucent, see-through look in the original iOS 26, while Tinted adds a frosted layer. I like the new one, makes text easier to read.
📋 Paste without the mess: On your iPhone, if you copy text from a website, it can be annoying when it drops into an email with all the links and formatting. The trick? With the text copied, long-press in the email body, tap the arrow that appears and select Paste and Match Style, then Allow Paste. Ta-da, neat and clean.
Find your typing spot: On Windows 11, it’s easy to lose that little blinking line when writing long documents. To make it stand out, go to Settings > Accessibility > Text cursor and toggle on Text cursor indicator. You can pick the size (3 is good) and color. And yes, it works in most apps and browsers.
Speak to ChatGPT: You can talk out loud instead of typing. I use it when I want to work through a longer thought and like feeling there’s someone on the other side (you can also choose a voice type). To try it, open a new chat and tap Use voice mode. Your convo will show up as text afterward. Oh, and don’t forget to hit the mic.
🎤 Fix your tone: Adobe showed off something pretty wild at its 2025 MAX Sneaks event. Its Corrective AI can change how you sound, turning a flat read into a confident speech, or even a whisper, just by highlighting text. It’s like autocorrect for your tone. Convenient for creators. Terrifying for anyone who thought voice acting was recession-proof.
🗣️ Let Chrome read to you: Struggling to focus on long articles? Add the “Read Aloud” extension from the Chrome Web Store. After installing, click the Extensions icon (top right) and pin it. Highlight any text and hit the Read Aloud icon to hear it. You can also adjust the voice, pitch and speed in Settings.
📚 Translate text on Kindle: Tap and hold on a word to translate it, or drag the sliders to highlight a full passage. In the pop-up menu, slide left until you see Translation. At the top, set the languages (e.g., From Japanese to English) and voila, you’ve got instant descriptions.
Wrong number scams spreading: It starts with a random text like “Emily from the gym?” You reply, “Wrong number.” But instead of leaving you alone, they get friendly, pull on your heartstrings, then pitch an investment scam. If you get one, don’t reply. Just block the number.
💬 Reply from lock screen: iPhone makes it easy to fire off a text without fully unlocking. When a message pops up on your lock screen, just long-press the preview, punch in your passcode, and a mini Messages window with keyboard appears. Type, send, done. Fast replies, zero app hunting.
⚡️ 3-second tech genius: Hate when pasted text shows up with random fonts and colors? Easy fix to remove the formatting. On Windows, hit Ctrl + Shift + V. On Mac, use Cmd + Option + Shift + V. Works in most apps.
⚡️ 3-second tech genius: Need help but can’t speak? In many U.S. areas, you can text 911 instead of calling. Check text911.info to see if it works where you live. It could save your life.
⚡️ 3-second tech genius: You can bold text without clicking the icon. On Windows, press Ctrl + B. On Mac, use Cmd + B. It works in Docs, Gmail, Word and most text editors.
📋 Recover text on Windows 11: I sometimes lose links I’ve copied, so I keep Clipboard History on. Go to Settings > System > Clipboard and toggle it on. Next time you need something back, press Windows key + V and your recent text copies pop up, ready to paste. Total lifesaver.
💻 macOS 26: Translation is built in more than ever. In Messages, your Mac can auto-translate text and show it alongside the original. In FaceTime, you’ll get live translated captions during calls. The Phone app even adds spoken translations for regular calls. FYI: Some features require Apple Intelligence, so you’ll need a Mac with Apple Silicon.
🍏 iPadOS 26: The new liquid glass look shows up in places like Control Center, which is now a transparent overlay. It’s in apps like News, where a glass menu bar at the top lets you slide between sections. Don’t like it? Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce Transparency.
WhatsApp’s new Writing Help: Rewrite your messages in different styles to make them sound more professional, funny (think Kim jokes) or supportive. To try it: Tap the icon on the right of the text, then the pencil icon under your message and select the tone you want.
