Nobody likes hearing, “We’ll need to schedule another appointment.” Especially when it comes with a side of drilling.

Researchers built a dental robot the size of a wine cork that could prep a tooth for a crown almost entirely on its own. After a quick 3D scan, dentists could map the procedure, order the permanent crown immediately and let the robot shave the tooth with less than 0.2 millimeters of error.

It even comes with a custom mouth splint, so if you move, it moves, too.

Drilling, filling and no lecture about flossing. Now that’s getting to the root of the problem.
