Recall alert: Dodge SUVs and 59K car seats recalled

Regular maintenance can help keep your vehicle safe to drive. Sometimes, an automobile can roll off the factory floor with problems that are only discovered much later. When that happens, manufacturers trigger a recall. And that’s precisely what is happening with some Dodge models.

Read on to see which models are facing a recall and details on car seats also being recalled.

Chrysler recalling Dodge SUVs

A vehicle’s internal components are what keeps them moving forward, but there are external parts that make the ride a lot smoother. For example, many cars have a rear spoiler that adds downforce when driving at high speeds.

As the wind pushes against the spoiler, it presses the vehicle down so that it grips the road better. This gives it stability and traction. However, almost 140,000 vehicles are being recalled as the spoiler can come loose and detach.

The affected models are the Dodge Durango SUV, manufactured from Oct. 24, 2020, until Feb. 16, 2023. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “the rear spoiler may not be aligned properly with the roof, resulting in damage to the spoiler during liftgate use.”

Child car seats are also recalled

In a separate recall, the NHTSA issued a warning for almost 60,000 child car seats made by the Dorel Juvenile Group. After an investigation, it was found that the lower seat anchors used to secure the child seat base may fail, allowing them to detach.

The defect makes it non-compliant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 213. The seats in the recall are:

  • Safety 1st onBoard 35 Secure Tech.
  • Maxi-Cosi Coral XP.
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico XP Max.
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico XP.
  • Maxi-Cosi Mico Luxe+.
  • Maxi-Cosi Infant Base.

What to do if your SUV or car seat is recalled

For the recalled SUVs, dealers will inspect and replace the rear spoiler, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by April 14, 2023. You may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information. Chrysler’s number for this recall is 20A. This recall is an expansion of recall number 21V-842.
