10 best true tech stories streaming

ChatGPT

You can keep the wizards and aliens. Give me a movie or series where something unbelievable actually happened.

Back by popular demand, I put together this list for you as proof that tech isn’t only lines of code and shiny gadgets. It’s ambition, hype, brilliance and, yeah, sometimes a total train wreck. You’re gonna want to see each one.

1. BlackBerry (AMC+ & Hulu)
Before iPhones took over, BlackBerry was the phone. This funny, fast-paced film shows how a couple of Canadian tech nerds built a global empire and how ego and chaos brought it crashing down.

2. Tetris (Apple TV+)
Yes, the block game is a Cold War thriller. A developer risks everything to secure the rights to Tetris from Soviet Russia. It’s fast, fun and surprisingly emotional.

3. The Playlist (Netflix)
Spotify took on the record industry and changed how we listen forever. This series shows how messy and brilliant that fight really was.

4. Super Pumped (Apple TV+)
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Uber founder Travis Kalanick in this high-octane series. It’s all boardroom fights, power struggles and startup chaos on full blast.

5. WeCrashed (Apple TV+)
Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway go full startup cult as the couple behind WeWork. They convinced investors it was worth $47 billion until reality set in.

6. The Dropout (Hulu)
This is the Theranos saga you’ve heard about, the tiny blood test, the billion-dollar lies and the woman who sold it all with a black turtleneck and a stare. Unbelievable and true.

7. Jobs (Amazon Prime)
Ashton Kutcher plays Steve Jobs in this version focused more on the early days of Apple. Think garages, vision and obsession with detail and how it all almost fell apart.

8. The Billion Dollar Code (Netflix)
Two German developers built early Google Earth tech in the ’90s and then watched Google run away with it. A gripping series about innovation, betrayal and fighting for credit.

9. General Magic (Tubi & Pluto TV)
Long before the iPhone, a forgotten startup tried to invent the smartphone. They failed, but their team quietly shaped the entire modern tech industry.

10. Silicon Cowboys (Amazon Prime)
The story of Compaq, a tiny company that went toe-to-toe with IBM in the early days of personal computers. It’s classic underdog energy with plenty of 1980s swagger.

AI’s in the driver’s seat, and it’s drunk

ChatGPT

I just read a jaw-dropping research paper out of Cornell University that hasn’t hit the headlines anywhere yet. Welcome to our new world. Scammers are using AI photos to create fake car accidents.

I’m talking crash photos, damage reports, even fake driver’s licenses all crafted by AI in minutes. Fraudsters are submitting fake claims to insurance companies and getting paid out. The tech is so good, even humans and some AI detectors can’t tell what’s real and what’s not.

⚡️ 3-second tech genius: Fire Stick buffering nonstop? A quick restart can solve glitches. Go to Settings > My Fire TV (or Device & Software) and tap Restart. Or hold Select and Play/Pause on your remote for a few seconds.

That ain’t Hank: An AI-generated “artist” named Breaking Rust hit #1 on Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales chart, beating some real heavy-hitting artists. The Spotify numbers are suspiciously massive, and there’s zero disclosure. The fans? Possibly bots. The “singer”? Not real. I bet he’s not even a real outlaw! Give the song a listen

Bill’s bubble bust: Bill Gates says we’re in an AI bubble, not full tulip mania but definitely dot-com vibes. He thinks some AI companies will be game changers, but most? Burning cash and copying each other. Totally something Microsoft wouldn’t do. “Dead ends,” he called them. The tech’s real, but the hype is getting expensive fast. After seeing my third AI note-taking app this week, I can’t say I disagree.

You might be yelling at a toaster

Quick question: When’s the last time you really knew if you were chatting with a real human on a customer-service call? Turns out, in more places than you think, it’s not a person at all. It’s AI.

That might be fine when you’re asking a dumb question like, “What time do you close?” But what about when you’re dealing with a bank, insurance company or police report? Yeah, it matters.

See what you swiped away: We’ve all cleared a notification too fast, only to regret it two seconds later. On Android, you can check the alerts, reminders and updates you accidentally dismissed. Go to Settings > Notifications > Advanced Settings and toggle on Notification History. You might even see a DM that was deleted.

💳 You didn’t pay twice: Ever checked out of a hotel, then realized your card got hit again? That’s the new “I Paid Twice” scam. Hackers email fake “bank verification” links to hotels, drop PureRAT malware and snag booking credentials to bill guests twice. Always recheck links before you click. PureRAT sounds like an energy drink for hackers.

Keep your iPad awake: If your screen keeps turning off while you’re thinking, you can change that. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and pick a longer time, like 5 minutes. Choose Never if you want it to stay on all the time. But remember that’ll drain the battery faster.

Why can’t Meta stop the fraud? Easy. It probably doesn’t want to. Hear how it made billions off scam ads last year. Plus, the Musk-Altman feud and a big Google Maps update. Then I talk to caller Byron, who says scammers drugged him and used facial recognition to unlock his phone. Scary!
