Protect your home router against hackers and DNS poisoning

Cal from Overton, NV had some questions in regards to preventing hackers from gaining access to his router. When a router is compromised, a hacker can inflict damage, not just on the router itself, but on every connected device running on your network. A few weeks ago, the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) issued an alert about state-supported Russian hackers carrying out attacks against a large number of home routers in the U.S. Here are some ways to keep them at bay and protect your home network.
