Lots of animals are smart. Dogs, dolphins, chimps, and even octopus are said to have intelligence that sometimes comes close to human level. Surprisingly, however, not one of those creatures can speak. Instead, one of the only animals able to talk like a human is the parrot. We’ve all seen clips of parrots saying funny words or singing along to songs, but what is it that gives these incredible birds the gift of gab? Here’s a hint: the answer has nothing to do with their brains.
