Using math to skate on thin ice

Falling into a frozen lake is scary, painful and potentially deadly. That’s why skaters that regularly glide across thin ice are thought to be crazy — but there’s a good deal of complex math involved to make it work. Using the power of numbers, thin-ice skaters can avoid plunging to their doom, and look really cool while they do it! (No pun intended.)
