It’s hard to camouflage something in the open ocean. Even harder when it is a huge military ship. But that didn’t stop people during WWI from trying. This led to a unique style of painting ships, so instead of purely camouflage, they dazzled the enemy, making it more difficult for them to determine the direction and speed of the ships.
