“M*A*S*H,” inspired by the 1970 movie of the same name, debuted in 1972 and ran until the record-setting final show in 1983, which was the most-seen non-sports-related TV episode at the time. It stars Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers, McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville, Loretta Swit, Gary Burghoff, William Christopher, David Ogden Stiers, Harry Morgan, Mike Farrell and Jamie Farr.
Along the way, the show earned 14 Emmys. It also moved from a situation comedy to a “dramedy,” with more serious moments added in between laughs.
