October’s security patch

The October OS Android update addresses 10 issues ranging in different levels of criticalness. The most significant flaw is an opening in the media framework that allowed hackers to access your Android phone remotely.

Other items the update addresses include security issues related to Android runtime and the Android framework. The issues being addressed are of high importance because they could leave openings for hackers to steal your private information.

This means if you store credit card information or personal details like your date of birth on your phone, these could be easily stolen without this latest update.

Who can get the current update?

The October update is important, but unfortunately, it’s not available to everyone yet. Currently, the patch is available for the following Google Pixel phones:

  • Pixel 3
  • Pixel 3a
  • Pixel 4
  • Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5g
  • Pixel 5
  • Pixel 5a

If you have one of the phones listed, you should download the update immediately. Here’s how:

  • Open Settings
  • Select System
  • Choose Advanced
  • Tap System Update
  • Your phone will check for the latest update
