Not long ago, scam email was pretty easy to spot, with all the misspellings and bad grammar. The scammers have wised up and are now using sophisticated tools that work like targeted advertising, finding victims who are most likely to click.
The carefree days of bogus Nigerian princes offering you countless millions in return for mere processing fees are long gone.
Today, phishing scam emails will address you by name, know where you work, names of relatives, and even tell you the correct password that you used on various websites. And the scammers are targeting employees requesting money transfers or sensitive information by impersonating executive email accounts.
Most scam emails will convey a sense of urgency. You must act now. Keep your guard up.
If you’re not sure it’s legit, pick up the phone and ask the sender before responding.
