You already know how critical it is to keep an eye on your credit report. If you're ever looking to purchase a home or car it's important to understand your credit score before applying for a loan.
The higher your credit score, the better interest rate you're going to qualify for. It's crucial that you're watching for mistakes or fraud.
This is especially true after the recent massive Equifax data breach. With over 147 million Americans' Social Security numbers exposed, we'll be dealing with potential identity fraud the rest of our lives.
As we said, it's critical for your finances to stay on top of your credit score. But did you know that there's another type of credit report that you need to pay attention to?
It's true. There's also a secret "health credit report" that could really impact your finances.
That's why we're going to tell you how to get a copy of your health credit reports.
How to monitor your health credit report
Your health credit report is used mainly by life insurance companies to determine how big of a risk you are. Insurance companies look at these reports to find out what prescription medications an applicant has taken over the course of their lives. The report gives an overview of a patient's health history.
The thing is, these reports can contain mistakes just like your financial credit reports. Which is why it's a good idea to take a look at them from time-to-time and make sure everything is on the up and up.
The insurance companies don't create these reports on their own. Instead, there are a few companies that compile a health dossier on individuals who apply for insurance.
Once the dossier is ready, a "health credit report" is sold to the insurance company that requests it. The good news is, you have the right to see your report whenever you'd like.
If you're applying for life insurance you should know what your report looks like. If you find mistakes, for example, your report claims that you're taking a medication that you've never actually been prescribed, you can have it corrected. This could save you some serious money on your policy.
Here are three of the top health credit report companies and how to contact them to learn about your information.
