There's no better way to escape the everyday than with a romance that sweeps you off your feet. And no one writes sweeping romances like novelist Nicholas Sparks.
The movie "The Longest Ride," based on his novel, melds the story of young love with an aging man, played by Alan Alda, whose love letters from a years-ago romance brings the couple from different generations together.
The movie stars Clint Eastwood's son, Scott Eastwood, as a rodeo rider who's thinking about giving up his career. He's falling in love with a young woman who's headed from North Carolina to a new life and career in New York City.
Until fate intervenes and turns their lives in entirely new directions. You can guess if they end up together. But the fun of "The Longest Ride" is getting there.
Mini-Review: "Nice period detail and very solid performances by Jack Huston and Oona Chaplin." (New York Post.)
