As summer heats up, more and more drivers are hitting the road. But this busy season also brings higher gas prices.
Even if you're not traveling this summer, fuel costs can still cut into your budget. Here at Komando.com, we love sharing tips on ways to make and save money. Especially during times when money gets tight.

So, here are three apps that will help you save money on gas this summer, and all year round.
When you're out running errands, carpooling or simply driving around, you're not always going to be traveling directly from point A to point B. You may have a dozen places to go, from dropping all the kids off at different schools, 10 different errands to run, or you might have three different meetings to attend, each on the opposite side of town.
No matter what the reason, you'll want an app that's a little bit better suited for this type of travel than the pre-loaded Google Maps that comes on all smartphones. After all, planning a route with multiple destinations isn't exactly Google Maps' forte.
To find the best route for multiple destinations, check out the Route4Me Route Planner app. All you need to do is enter an address or ZIP code and it finds the optimum route to all of your stops. Better yet, you can use this app with Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze for the turn-by-turn and voice-guided navigation you're already used to. You'll save your sanity, valuable time and better yet, gas money.

Gas prices keep rising and are always changing. How many times have you filled up your tank and then driven by three more gas stations with cheaper prices? Or what if you drive past the same station the next morning to see a lower price? It can drive you crazy.
All joking aside, prices also vary considerably depending on your location. Even gas stations just a few blocks apart can have wildly different prices. If you're trying to save money, you want to find the cheapest station. But with so many out there, how do you find the closest, cheapest one?
We've got the perfect app for you. It's called GasBuddy and it does the hard work and research for you. With GasBuddy, all you need to do is enter your location by city or ZIP code.
From there, you'll see all of the nearest gas stations and the current prices of gas. When you see the one you want, you can then get directions to the location. Cheaper gas is as easy as that!
When you join the GasBuddy community and post new prices to the app, you will earn 150 points. For every 1,000 points earned, you will be entered to win $100 in gas, which is given away every day! Simply redeem your points by clicking on the Win Gas tab.

3. Carma Carpooling
If you'd really like to save money on gas, one of the easiest things you can do is carpool. But finding carpool buddies isn't always easy. That's why you might want to check out this app.
Carma Carpooling is a free download that helps connect drivers that are headed in the same direction. Users simply schedule their ride, and the app checks for other users in your area that you could share a ride with. The overall cost of the ride is shared, so all riders pay around .$.20 per mile, and transactions are handled directly in the app.
