5 reasons you need a Bluetooth speaker

5 reasons you need a Bluetooth speaker

Last Christmas, my son Ian gave me a Bluetooth speaker as a gift. If you haven't seen one of these, they're compact portable speakers that connect wirelessly to your phone, tablet or laptop so you can stream music, podcasts or anything else you want.

At first, I had no idea what I was going to use it for. After all, I have a home speaker system already, and I can use headphones with my iPhone and iPad. However, after a few months it became one of my favorite tech gadgets, and today I'm going to tell you why it might be your next favorite item too.

1. Use around the house

When I'm cooking, I like to listen to music, audiobooks or podcasts. My home speakers were fine for music, but my stereo system couldn't do audiobooks or podcasts without burning them to a disc first.

Sure I could have used headphones, but then the cord gets dipped in food, tangled with knives, and I might not hear a pot boiling over, or a timer buzzing. Now I just set my Bluetooth speaker on the counter and I can hook up my iPhone and stream whatever I want. Plus, I get full access to my iTunes music library and playlists, something my stereo couldn't do.

And because the Bluetooth speaker is portable, I can move it around with me to the garage, laundry room, bedroom or anywhere else I have projects to do.

2. Use for podcasts

Let's talk a bit more about podcasts, because I love them. If you aren't aware of podcasts, these are audio segments people record and upload online. Anyone can create a podcast on any subject, so you'll find some from major news organizations down to a guy with a passion for a particular topic.

In fact, I like podcasts so much I've started making my own that you can listen to for free. I cover topics like the Dark Web, the voice behind Siri, saving money, and more, along with weekly news you need to know. Podcasts are simple to download to a smartphone, tablet or computer, but getting them on your home stereo is another story, and you might not have very powerful computer speakers. Plus, you don't always want headphones covering your ears. A Bluetooth speaker makes it easy to listen in any room at the volume you want.

3. Use to share music

Tell me if this has ever happened to you: There's a great new song you downloaded to your smartphone that you want a friend to hear. How do you share it?

You could play it through your phone's lousy speaker, take the time to pull it up on your computer (assuming you have good speakers hooked up), or take a lot of time to put it on a disc for your home stereo. More often than not, you hand your friend your headphones and stand around waiting for them to finish listening to it. Where's the fun in that?

With a Bluetooth speaker, you can play your music so everyone can hear. You have full access to your music library and playlists through your gadget. Also, if someone else wants to share they can connect right up. It's the perfect gadget for a party.

4. Use outside the home

A portable Bluetooth speaker isn't just for use at home. Maybe you want some tunes in the backyard for a party. Perhaps you want some music at your park picnic. Maybe you want to have a podcast listening session at a friend's house.

Skip the CD-only boombox and grab your Bluetooth speaker that can play your entire music library right from your phone or tablet.

5. Use for hands-free phone calls

One of the benefits of a Bluetooth speaker is it can usually do more than just stream music. Some models have a built-in mic so they work for hands-free calling.

So, if you're tired of holding the phone to your head, or can't hear the caller in speakerphone mode, this will do the trick. The mic will pick up your voice at a good distance, the speaker is loud enough that you can clearly hear the person on the other end.

There are even more uses I'm sure you can find. However, I was so impressed, I decided I just had to make my own Bluetooth speaker. I'd like to introduce you to ...

The Komando Connect Bluetooth Speaker

I'm very proud of this product. It's loaded with innovative features, reliable performance and stereo sound quality you won't believe. And it's portable at just 1.5 lbs with a battery good for several hours of play time. It charges in 3 to 4 hours from a standard microUSB charger.

To use the speaker, just pair it up with your smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth-enabled gadget using the simple, tactile buttons, and let your music fill the room with wall-to-wall sound. Or you can pop in a microSD card filled with MP3s and play your music directly; no third-party gadget needed.

Need more sound? You can pair up a second Komando Connect for a louder, super-stereo experience. If you buy two at the same time, you get free shipping.

Trust me; once you try this speaker you're going to wonder how you lived without it.
