Vacation is scary for more Americans than ever. A recent travel survey shows about 40% of Americans will not use all of their vacation days. For many, it's because of the dread of returning to a backlog of work. But using your vacation time is actually beneficial.
Another study shows taking a vacation every two years compared to every six reduces the risk of coronary heart disease or heart attacks. Vacations actually improve productivity and strengthen family relationships. Unfortunately, getting away is tough if you're a small business owner or have a lot of responsibility at your job; trust me, I know. You worry about projects getting done, if your employees can handle day-to-day operations or unexpected crises, and dozens of other potential problems.
Getting out of town to a beautiful place only to sit around worrying about work, or constantly checking email or calling the office is a great way to kill your stress-free vacation. You'll get back on the job and feel like you need to go on vacation again.
