What’s in and out of Netflix in July

July is knocking at our door and you know what that means – summer will be in full swing and the heat will be cranking way up. Better cool down, stay hydrated, chill out and have your fill of the hot new Netflix content coming your way next month!

Notable gems returning to Netflix in July include classic blockbusters like “Titanic,” “Police Academy” and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.” The whole family will surely enjoy the “Land Before Time” trilogy, Disney’s “Mighty Ducks” and “Free Willy.”

But as usual, some of our favorite movies and shows will be departing Netflix too. Titles leaving us in July include the Mel Brooks’ comedy-western “Blazing Saddles,” Tim Burton’s “Batman,” the classic comedy “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” Tom Cruise in “The Last Samurai” and sadly, every season of our favorite 1980’s handyman “MacGyver.” Make sure to catch all of your favorites while you can.

Check out our top picks for July’s fresh Netflix content:

Lion (2016)

Ready for a powerful tearjerker? Then you’ll absolutely be moved by “Lion,” the Academy Award nominee for Best Picture helmed by Garth Davis.

Based on real events chronicled in the book “A Long Way Home,” Lion tells the story of a 5-year-old Indian boy who unexpectedly gets lost a thousand miles from home. After surviving harrowing challenges while roaming the streets of Calcutta, he gets picked up by an orphanage and is adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty-five years later, he starts longing for his long-lost family and sets out the near-impossible task of finding them.

The riveting film explores themes of home, identity, family and it stars Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara and David Wenham.

“Lion” starts its Netflix journey on July 9.

Castlevania: Season 1 (Netflix Original)

The much-awaited Netflix animated adaptation of the classic video series “Castlevania” finally arrives in July.

Following the footsteps of other beloved reboots of 1980’s properties like “Voltron,” “Pee-Wee Herman,” and “Inspector Gadget,” Netflix will again attempt to recapture the magic that made “Castlevania” one of the biggest video game sagas ever.

Castlevania is a gothic, dark fantasy that follows the adventures of the sole survivor of the Belmont clan, as he tries to save Europe from the vampiric terrors of Dracula.

“Castlevania” swings into action on July 7.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The big Netflix event film for July is the 2016 mega-blockbuster “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

“Rogue One” is the first standalone film that stands apart from the Skywalker saga. This epic tale reveals how the secret plans for the Death Star were stolen by an unlikely team of Rebels and the events that preceded the first scenes of Star Wars: A New Hope.

If you’re a Star Wars fan (who isn’t?), it’s a movie you’ll surely watch over and over again.

The movie stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen and was directed by Gareth Edwards.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will land on July 18.
