Weird and wonderful tech debuting at CES 2019

It’s been an interesting week at CES, to say the least. We’ve already seen tons of amazing new tech items, like LG’s OLED Rollable TV and a car that can actually walk.

But that’s not all. We’ve also seen some super bizarre things at this year’s event.

Let’s take a look at some of the stranger things on display this week. We’ll also throw in a couple of futuristic tech items that you’re sure to love.

Outlandish items at CES

Inventors can wow us with creative ideas and the best of the best usually end up at CES. But some of the things that show up there can make you scratch your head and say huh!? Not that there’s anything wrong with that. With that said, here are a few items at CES that are, let’s say, a little out there.

Smart baby diaper

Did you ever imagine a world full of smart diapers? Well, it’s becoming a reality.

The Monit smart diaper sensor attaches to the outside of a diaper and tells parents when the baby is due for a change. The sensor is a tiny disc that sends information to its app. It then … you know what, let’s just watch the demonstration video to see how it actually works:

Kohler Numi smart toilet with Alexa

OK, I must admit this one is kinda cool. The Kohler Numi 2.0 Intelligent Toilet has speakers built-in, and they now come equipped with Amazon’s Alexa.

You won’t have to wait to finish your bathroom break before getting answers to all those pressing questions on your mind. Just ask Alexa, and voila! you have the answer.

Not only that, but this high-tech toilet has a number of other practical features, like keeping tabs on water efficiency and smart lights built-in that help navigate your way through the night. And they’re multicolored and interactive, so you can totally personalize your bathroom.

Impossible Burger

The one that you’d never expect to see on display at CES is a tasty burger. That all changed this year when the next generation Impossible Burger was introduced.

If you don’t know, the Impossible Burger is a plant-based, vegan option that debuted in 2016. Most people that have tried it say it looks, tastes and eats like a traditional burger.

The next version of the Impossible Burger contains no gluten, no animal hormones and no antibiotics. Some say it even seems to bleed like an actual beef burger.

This is one of those why-didn’t-I-think-of-it inventions.

We’ve always been told to brush our teeth for 2 minutes, at least twice a day. The makers of Y-Brush claim it can clean your teeth in just 10 seconds.

It’s basically a collection of bristles set-up in a 45-degree angle around a mouthguard. Just put it in your mouth for 10 seconds and it supposedly gives you the same level of cleaning as a standard toothbrush. I don’t know!?!? Watch the following video to see how it works:

Futuristic tech that you’re sure to love

Iceless cooler

The tried-and-true cooler has been a staple of backyards, garages and campsites for decades. So obviously, it was time for a tech refresh.

Furrion’s new Rova Electric Cooler holds a couple dozen cans, not unlike the ugly red one that’s been sitting in your garage since 1987. What makes this one stand out is it’s supposed to keep everything cold for up to 7 days, and get this, without ice.

It has a lithium-ion battery pack and a built-in compressor. On the outside, you’ll find an LED display, three USB ports, a wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones and a run-of-the-mill 110 volt standard outlet. It’ll be available later this year for around $800.

Gaze Tray

Apple fans are going to LOVE this! They’ve had wireless charging envy for years, watching their Android-equipped friends plop their devices on charging trays.

The Gaze Tray is a wireless charger that can charge multiple gadgets at the same time. It looks like a stylish tray that you would keep at your workstation or nightstand to organize your things, but can also charge your devices.

We’ll have a roundup of the best of the best at CES this weekend. Keep an eye out!
