The 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is in full swing. It’s the place to be for tech movers and shakers.
Companies are doing all they can to hype up their new tech items. You’ll see everything from flashy displays on the main show floors to smaller events taking place all around them.
We expect to see some amazing new gadgets debut at CES this year. And of course there will be some clunkers.
First … what is CES?
The Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, is an annual festival of technology that takes over Las Vegas in January each year. It’s the largest and most influential technology event on the planet.
CES features big names like Samsung and LG alongside small companies you’ve never heard of, all crammed onto massive show floors where they hype their latest and greatest gadgets, television sets and computers. Companies from over 155 countries will take part in this year’s event.
But it’s not all TVs and laptops. The entire tech ecosystem comes together with every major and emerging industry represented.
Tons of emerging technologies that will change our lives for the better will be on display. There will also be plenty of items that showcase what you might consider the stranger side of technology. And this year doesn’t disappoint.
Cool technology debuting at CES
Here are a couple of the cool new tech items expected to be showcased at CES 2019:
Wearable technology is a growing trend. Fitbits and smartwatches are a couple popular examples.
But at CES 2019, you can add smart shoes to the list. These innovative shoes by E-Vone have tech built-in that will notify your emergency contact if you fall down. Perfect for aging seniors.
L’Oreal My Skin Track pH
According to L’Oreal, the My Skin Track pH is a small, flexible patch-like sensor that picks up trace amounts of sweat from your pores and promises an accurate skin pH reading in just 15 minutes.
As of now, the device is just a prototype, but it is being introduced at this year’s CES.
5G networks are on the way
With 5G technology right around the corner, it will play a major role at this year’s CES. Later this week, mobile carriers like Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon are scheduled to update us on what’s in store.
Crazy CES items from 2018
Every year CES brings us some crazy new technology that makes you scratch your head. Last year didn’t disappoint. Here are a couple highlights, or should we say lowlights, from CES 2018.
ForwardX CX-1 suitcase
Do you have trouble recognizing your luggage from a crowd of similar baggage? That won’t be a problem if your luggage recognizes you instead.
The ForwardX CX-1 carry-on suitcase uses facial recognition technology to identify its owner. It’s also self-propelled and will follow you around like your very own Star Wars robot.
We’re all familiar with the concept of airbags in a car, but airbag tech company Helite wants to offer airbags for your hips. The Hip’Air is an airbag you wear around your waist.
It inflates when its sensors detect a fall. The system is geared for seniors who are at risk of breaking their hips. It looks like a big belt when not inflated.
Those are just a few tech items that have caught our eye. We’ll be posting more stories throughout the week to keep you updated on what’s happening at CES 2019.
