In this fast-paced society we live in, it seems that we just can’t get information quick enough. That also goes for items we order online.
It used to be we’d have to wait for sometimes up to 10 days for a delivery. The fierce competition is forcing companies to find ways to ship and deliver items faster to your door. Now, Amazon is launching a new method to get the items you order into your hands almost instantaneously.
How Amazon is taking on convenience stores
Amazon is one company that has been very proactive in delivering orders fast! On some items, you can get free same-day delivery. On other orders, it’s two-day delivery service for free.
More perks are included if you’re an Amazon Prime member including free two-day shipping on over 50 million items, same-day delivery in more than 5,000 cities and towns, and even two-hour delivery in 30 major cities if you’re a Prime Now customer.
Now, Amazon is adding something new. It’s a service you’ll like if you need something extra fast. Instant Pickup was just introduced today. It’s a free service but you must be a Prime or Prime Student member to take advantage of it.
If you order an item from what Amazon calls a “curated selection of daily essentials,” you’ll be able to pick it up in two minutes or less. Those essentials include electronics along with Amazon’s most popular devices, snacks and drinks.
But here’s the catch. You must live near one of Amazon’s fully staffed pickup locations in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Berkeley, CA, Columbus, Ohio, or College Park, MD.
In a statement posted online, Ripley MacDonald, Director of Amazon Student Programs, said Instant Pickup is just one more way of making life easier for Prime members. “As shopping behaviors continue to evolve, customers consistently tell us that they want items even faster,” said MacDonald.
“Whether it’s a snack on-the-go, replacing a lost phone charger in the middle of a hectic day or adding Alexa to your life with an Echo, Instant Pickup saves Prime members time. While Instant Pickup is available at select pickup locations today, we’re excited about bringing this experience to more customers soon.”
Even if you don’t need your item that fast, all Amazon customers can request their orders to be sent to one of these pickup locations. Prime members receive free same-day service and one-day delivery on just about everything. Returns are always free.
Another feature of Instant Pickup is you can even add last-minute items to an online order and still pick it up within two minutes as long as you go to a self-service locker. The online giant hopes to soon have 22 staffed pickup locations on or near college campuses soon!
