Facebook has been in hot water for a long time now. It was only a couple months ago when we found out about the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook mess. That was a total breach of users’ privacy that many people can’t forgive. (PssT! Click here to learn how to delete your Facebook account once and for all.)
The problems didn’t begin there though. Other issues with the social media giant have been around for years.
One of the main complaints people have is how rampant fake news has been spreading through Facebook. You won’t believe how it’s trying to solve this problem now.
You’ve seen the commercials…but wait, there’s more
I’m sure you’ve seen the Facebook commercials trying to regain the trust of its users. The company isn’t stopping there.
Previously, the company used algorithms to try and weed out propaganda and fake news. Obviously that didn’t work.
Now, Facebook is hiring news “credibility specialists” to try and combat the fake news epidemic. The job title is News Publisher Specialist.
Here’s part of the job description:
“We’re seeking individuals who believe in Facebook’s mission of making the world more connected. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and well-organized, with an analytical mind and a keen eye for process improvement.
“As a member of the team, you’ll be tasked with developing a deep expertise in Facebook’s News Credibility Program. You’ll be conducting investigations against predefined policies.”
The specialists will be tasked to come up with a list of credible news organizations. What could go wrong?
I don’t know about you but I’m taking the wait and see approach. When dealing with a company that’s had this many fails over the past couple years, it’s the prudent thing to do.
