Online shopping is one of the best things to have spawned from the internet. It’s so much more convenient than driving to the store and battling huge crowds of shoppers. Especially this time of year when everyone is out shopping for the holidays.
So many people take advantage of shopping online these days it’s turned into a fierce competition between retailers. But before you shop at Walmart, you really need to know about this trick. It could save you some serious money.
How to find the best prices
Walmart has made a change to the way it prices some items on its website. The company is now charging more for certain items when you purchase them online than what you would pay if you went to one of its brick-and-mortar locations.
Walmart did this for a couple reasons. The first is to try and get more consumers into its stores. The second is to offset costs on items that are unprofitable to ship.
This strategy isn’t unique to Walmart. Other big-box retailers also charge more for online purchases. Costco is one example.
Most of the products that are priced differently from online to in-store fall into the food and household categories. You can see many of the price differences on the company website.
Here are some examples:
Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup 4-pack
As you can see in the image, this 4-pack of chicken noodle soup costs $4.93 online but only $3.98 when you buy it in the store.
Del Monte Fresh Cut Green Beans 4-count
This 4-pack of fresh cut green beans costs $4.36 online and $3.46 in the store.
Pedigree Adult Grilled Steak and Vegetable Flavor Dry Dog Food 50 pounds
This 50-pound bag of dry dog food costs $26.98 online and $22.98 in the store.
Here’s an 18-ounce box of Cheerios that sells for $4.60 online and $3.52 in the store.
A Walmart spokesperson said, “We always work to offer the best price online relative to other sites. It simply costs less to sell some items in stores. Customers can access those store prices online when they choose to pick up the item in store.”
Now, you’re not going to get rich with these savings but if you buy certain items regularly the savings will really add up. It’s always good to check and only takes a few moments.

Don’t want to wait for Black Friday to get great deals? No worries, Amazon already has a ton of deals available right now
Black Friday used to mean climbing out of bed at 2 a.m. and standing in line, waiting for your retailer of choice to open its doors. Then you had the feisty crowd to deal with. You’d be lucky to get out of there unscathed let alone actually getting your hands on the best deal the store was offering. Yikes, no thank you! I have good news, there’s a better way.
