Apple rumors: The iPhone 8’s camera will blow you away!

Another day, another iPhone 8 rumor! And since September is right around the corner, we may only have a little over a month to go before the latest iPhones are unveiled.

You may very well know by now that we may see three separate iPhone models in 2017 – an iPhone 7s with a 4.7-inch LCD screen, an iPhone 7s Plus with a 5.5-inch LCD screen and the premium iPhone 8 with a 5.8-inch OLED screen.

The premium iPhone 8 is rumored to include new technologies like wireless charging, 3D facial scanning and an on-screen fingerprint sensor and earlier this week, we reported about the leaked HomePod code that may have confirmed two of these new features.

But it looks like developers and researchers are still finding more iPhone 8 references hidden within the HomePod firmware code.

Like this new piece of detail that was recently discovered, pointing to features that can take the iPhone’s photo taking capabilities to another level.

The HomePod is Apple’s answer to the Amazon Echo and Google Home smart speakers and since it is integrated tightly with the next iPhones, clues about the new phones can be seen within the HomePod’s firmware code.

Developer Guilherme Rambo uncovered the code while he was picking apart the said firmware and it appears to be referencing a “SmartCamera” feature. This new feature could very well make its way to the next iPhones.

The code suggests that with this new feature, the iPhone’s Camera app will be able to detect various types of conditions, scenes, and subjects then adjust its settings automatically.

For example, it will be able to detect scenes like Snow, Sport, SunriseSunset, BrightStage, and subjects like Baby, Fireworks, Pet or Foliage and then change the camera’s exposure, shutter speed and focus for the best possible shot.

Anyone who has ever used a digital camera will recognize that this is nothing new. Scene presets have been staple features in point and shoot cameras and DSLRs for years but this could mark the debut of a similar feature on iPhones.

Another feature referenced in the code is something called “freezeMotion,” similarly paired with various subjects like Baby and Pet. This suggests that the next iPhone’s Camera will have another feature that can capture a fast moving object then automatically select the best shot.

The last piece of camera code found by Rambo references a metric called “Confidence” and it’s also paired with terms like “QR” and “Document.” This suggests that not only will the next iPhone camera recognize subjects like babies and pets, it will also do the same with text documents and QR codes.

4K video recording at 60 frames

Meanwhile, Brazilian website iHelp BR found more code in the HomePod that suggests that the iPhone 8 will be able to record 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. If true, then this will be the highest resolution and framerate for an iPhone.

What do you think? Will these new SmartCamera features take the iPhone 8 to the next level? Drop us a comment!
