Amazon’s new streaming music deal is amazingly cheap

Remember when taking your own music on the go meant you had to preload your portable player with your own tunes? Those days are long gone thanks to listen-all-you-can music streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music Unlimited.

While Amazon Music Unlimited is still playing third fiddle to the other music streaming giants, this new deal may just snag quite a few customers from its competitors.

Amazon is currently offering Amazon Music Unlimited subscriptions for an insane price of $6 for six months to students.

Better yet, after the six-month deal ends, students will only have to pay $4.99 a month to continue on with their streaming subscription.

Amazon Music Unlimited launched in October last year to compete with other streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. It features Amazon’s massive library of songs which you can listen to at any time on a PC, smartphone, tablet or through an Amazon Echo device.

If you’re a Prime member, you’re probably already familiar with Prime Music, one of Prime’s great perks. The main difference between Prime Music and Amazon Music Unlimited is the selection of songs – Prime Music only has about 2 million songs in its library compared to Music Unlimited’s tens of millions.

The running rate for other music streaming subscriptions like Spotify Premium and Apple Music is about $10 a month but they are also offering $4.99 student subscription discounts.

Amazon Music Unlimited likewise costs $9.99 a month for non-Prime members but Prime members can get it for $7.99 a month.

The $1 a month Music Unlimited deal is a good strategic move for Amazon, as it’s trying to take away subscribers from other music services while building its own user base.

Currently, Spotify has around 60 million paying customers, Apple Music has 27 million while Amazon is still in third place at 16 million.

If you’re a student wanting to take advantage of this deal, hurry up! Amazon said that this will be available for a limited time. Head on to the Amazon Music Unlimited page to sign up with your college or university email address.

Note: Students can also get Amazon Prime membership discounts, click here to find out how.
