At Amazon’s event later today, expect to see a number of new Fire TV products on display. But the star of the show is likely to be Alexa.
Amazon’s event is when the retail giant debuts products it will be selling during the holiday season. Amazon likes to keep things under wraps until event day, but three possible new products already are making waves.
We’ll tell you more about these products, including where Alexa fits in. We’ll also let you know when you can start expecting to see some of these products on Amazon’s website.
Getting up close with Alexa
One of the products that’s rumored to be announced today is Alexa earbuds. CNBC reports that the earbuds are expected to cost under $100, much less than Apple’s AirPods.
The earbuds will be powered by Alexa and will, of course, primarily be used to listen to music. But for the first time, Amazon is getting into the health wearable device business.
The earbuds will double as a fitness monitoring device. While you’re jogging and listening to music, they will be monitoring your pace, distance run and more. This could be a sign that Amazon wants to make Alexa more of a personalized product and perhaps increase its presence in the health and wellness market.
Higher quality sound
Another product that may make its debut is a larger Echo designed with higher-quality sound in mind. Along with the higher-quality sound, the new Echo is said to come with a woofer.
Better speakers make sense in light of Amazon’s launch of Amazon Music HD. The premium service has a library of more than 50 million songs in high definition, plus millions of others in ultra-high definition.
Along with pushing people toward Amazon’s music offerings, the new Echo might usurp the current Echo products. The various Echo speakers have often faced criticism for not being as good as their competitors.
Recognizing what you need
One new product feature already has been announced by Amazon. Today we’ll likely hear and see more about it.
That makes sense since the feature is called Show and Tell. It runs on Echo Show, an Alexa-enabled smart speaker with a touchscreen display.
Show and Tell’s main feat is that it can recognize household pantry items. Just ask, “Alexa, what am I holding?”
Show and Tell is to help the blind and those with limited vision. It was designed by Amazon’s Alexa for Everyone in partnership with the Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Echo Show uses computer vision and machine learning to recognize the objects.
These are just a few of the products expected to show up at Amazon’s big event today. Expect many more products to hit the stage.
At last year’s show alone, 70 new products were introduced. The new products will likely sprout up on Amazon’s website almost immediately with caveats of when they will be available.
