Even back in the day, most everyone had a war story or two of how they made it through the holidays’ family drama. With as rough as the political climate is these days, it can make Christmas dinner more difficult to navigate.
Everyone seems to have an opinion and they can’t wait to share it, no matter the venue. Some will even come prepared with a few of the most outlandish stories circulating on social media. Tap or click here to see the top 10 fake news articles on Facebook in 2019.
The good news is we will have a little help getting through it this year. Alexa can jump in whenever things get a little too intense.
Amazon wants to help spread holiday cheer
Alexa has a lot of skills you might not even know about. Skills are like apps. You can enable and disable them through the Alexa app, an Alexa-enabled device or a web browser. Tap or click here for 7 Alexa skills you’ll use time and time again.
Amazon recently conducted a survey and found that at approximately 6:30 p.m. Christmas Day is when the first argument is most likely to flare up. So the company has decided to lend a hand.
Now, Alexa can step in if things get heated during Christmas dinner. All you need to do is say, “Alexa, change the subject” and the virtual assistant will suggest different topics to debate.
For example, Alexa will ask which superpower you would like to have or something more timely, like what’s the best Christmas movie. Amazon said families can use this skill as a distraction technique to cool down heated arguments.
How to get the Alexa skill
If you want to save Christmas with Alexa’s new skill, all you need to do is enable it. Here’s how:
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap the Settings menu in the upper left corner.
- Tap Skills & Games.
- Do a search by tapping the magnifying glass icon in the upper right corner.
- Search for “Change the Subject.”
- Tap the Change the Subject skill from the search results.
- Tap “Enable To Use.”
That’s it, now the skill is ready to use. Start by saying,” Alexa, change the subject” and voilà, the day is saved. Now there is nothing standing between you and the perfect family get-together. Merry Christmas, from everyone at Komando.com!
