Technical Project Manager

The Kim Komando Show is the nation's largest talk radio show about everything digital. It broadcasts every weekend on more than 400 radio stations in the U.S. and internationally on the American Forces radio Network. The show also streams live in HD video to paying subscribers and soon, to a national TV audience. Kim's weekly column appears nationally in USA Today, FoxNews and in more than 100 daily newspapers.

We have an online presence that delivers over 12 million email newsletters each week, which also provides e-commerce services to books we produce, consumer buying guides, audio podcasts and videos.

The Technical Project Manager will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will support the IT Architect and Development team to ensure all internal and external projects stay within budgeted hours and on time delivery. The role will be responsible for managing multiple projects and teams in a fast-paced work environment, which includes: managing all resources associated with each project, the budget, and provide technical guidance as well business acumen in solving the business needs as it relates the customer, business, and employees. This individual provides communication and updates to the CEO during all phases of a project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage day to day operations within IT
  • Support the enterprise and other department initiatives as it relates to researching and identifying technology solutions to meet the business needs
  • Project manage department initiatives that involve IT engagement. This would include, but not limited to: meet with other departments in understanding IT needs, estimation and prioritization, leading the group in identifying the minimum viable product, and coordinate environment migrations such as lower environment promotions, production deployment, and assisting in general troubleshooting if issues arise
  • Identify and mitigate project risks
  • Develop, improve, maintain internal IT management processes
  • Manage all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing best practices that include, but not limited to: assist in documenting requirements, Agile/SCRUM, Waterfall, Rapid development and prototyping
  • Act as a SCRUM Master and facilitates the sprint planning and boards appropriately
  • Provides weekly status reports for all projects to the leadership team
  • On occasions, assist in managing backups for Postgres, MySQL, and SQL Servers
  • On-call for system outages or failures
  • Periodically, assist in Desktop support, when necessary
  • Periodically, assist in routine maintenance, updates, and procurement

Requirements

  • BS or related field in Computer Science
  • 5+ years in project management, business analysis or related discipline
  • 2+ years in Agile methodology
  • Knowledge in UI/UX fundamentals
  • Understanding in installing, configuring, and supporting Microsoft server operating systems including Windows Server 2012 and 2016. This would also include Linux OS experience
  • Knowledge in supporting desktop applications including Microsoft products, O365, Mac operating systems, hosted file storage, IE, Chrome, and common antivirus applications and desktop
  • Knowledge in Powershell, bash scripting, and batch files
  • Knowledge and general application of best practices such as ITIL
  • Must be organized and be able to lead projects through planning, facilitating, gathering requirements, construction, and to completion
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team and management
  • Microsoft certifications associated with degrees of knowledge is a plus, but not required

About WestStar and The Kim Komando Show

WestStar Multimedia Entertainment is a national broadcasting company that is home to The Kim Komando Show. The Kim Komando Show for radio is syndicated and broadcast nationally, distributed via satellite to more than 400 top radio stations with 6.5 million weekly listeners.

Kim was the first national female talk host to discuss consumer electronics since 1995. The program originates at WestStar’s at the 24,000 sq. ft. broadcast center in central Phoenix. Over the past 6 years, WestStar has experimented with a television version of this successful radio program.

Beginning November 2018, The Kim Komando Show will premier on Bloomberg Television on a custom designed set at WestStar’s production facility (custom set an created by Chris Runnels. Lighting designed by Justin Garonne, both of Innovative Show Design).

The program is shot as an 11-camera HD production (recorded with 8 cameras in isolation for precise production/editing). Much of the new program will consist of original content interlaced with some segments of the radio program.
