How to capture images in 3D and bring new life to your old 2D photos

Think about the main features that usually take center stage in smartphone ads. Even though battery life, memory, processor speed and storage space are all important details, smartphone manufacturers want you to know that their camera is the best camera.

Aside from image quality, your phone comes with some neat camera tricks such as slow motion video, panoramic mode, HDR and more. Tap or click here to find out how to take four different kinds of Live Photos with your iPhone.

Many third-party apps let you take your photos beyond what your phone’s hardware and software are capable of, like adding 3D effects. LucidPix is an app that not only takes photos in 3D but it can also convert existing 2D photos.

LucidPix is an app for Android and iOS that allows you to create, view and share 3D photos on your smartphone without the need for multiple cameras or distance-measuring software. Instead, the app uses artificial intelligence to add depth to your photo without requiring you to move around while capturing the footage.

What’s nice is that you don’t need any special glasses or headsets to view the modified photos. As a bonus, the app also gives you the ability to add 3D frames, filters, text and stickers.

When you’re finished, you can show off your work through social media or text directly from the app. You can also share your pics with the LucidPix Gallery so other users can view them.

  • Tap the blue camera icon to switch to capture mode.
  • Tap the shutter button to take a 3D photo.
  • Review your image and tap the filter or text icons if you’d like to do some editing.
  • Save or share your work.

  • Launch the app and tap on the camera icon at the bottom of the screen, which brings you to the photo picker.
  • Choose a photo and tap to select it.

Try it out for free

LucidPix is available for free from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. A pro version gives you unlimited use of the app and removes watermarks, but comes at a price: $3 per month, $6 for three months or $20 per year. Check it out for yourself using the download links below:

The app also has a new feature for users to collect, create and sell NFT 3D art. You might be asking, “what’s an NFT?” Tap or click here to find out everything you need to know about a “non-fungible token.”

LucidPix isn’t the only 3D photo app of its kind. For instance if you’re ever on Facebook, you might have noticed that you can add 3D effects to photos you’re about to post.

Another third-party option is Parallax, a free iOS app that lets you create 3D photos from your camera roll. With this one, you can change the direction of the 3D effect and blur backgrounds to give the effect of depth. There are four modes for shooting in 3D, including a manual mode.

Parallax Pro gives you access to all capture modes, filters, effects and overlays.
