Don’t live in the past (or, if you do, erase it): You went down the Facebook rabbit hole while snooping on an ex and you want to wipe away the last 20 minutes of your search history. Log into Facebook on your browser and tap your profile picture. Select Settings & Privacy > Activity Log. Click Logged actions and other activity, then Search history. Tap Clear Searches.
Job hunting on LinkedIn? Change this setting to keep your searches private
LinkedIn has become quite the powerhouse since its launch in 2003. What began as a platform to connect with other professionals has expanded into a revolutionary workspace for building partnerships, hiring new talent, and finding rewarding new jobs.
Wondering how to make your profile stand out? Begin with adding a video that showcases who you are. Tap or click here for steps on how to do that.
If you don’t want your current boss to know you are job hunting, you’ll want to ensure those settings aren’t visible to others. Keep reading to find out how to change a crucial setting so you can keep your job searches private.
What happens when your account is public?
Our sponsor LinkedIn isn’t just used for professional job searches. As with any social media platform, you can use LinkedIn to look up old friends and check out what they’ve been up to.
This isn’t a big deal until your boss looks you up online. You can also look up your employees or old friends, but there is one problem. If your account is public, they will know you were lurking around online looking them up.
How to keep yourself private online
If you want to keep yourself private online, you have to protect profile changes. You can choose to notify your network about job changes, education changes, work anniversaries, and profile video updates.
Enabling notifications about your profile changes may generate a post in your network’s feed, an in-app or email notification. You might also want to keep your connections private. Here’s how:
To adjust notifications sent to your network about profile changes:
- Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
- Select Settings & Privacy from the dropdown.
- Click the Visibility tab on the left.
- Under Visibility of your LinkedIn activity, click Change next to Share profile updates with your network.
- Switch the toggle to Yes to share your profile edits or No to stop sharing your profile edits.
- Your changes will be saved automatically.

LinkedIn's ghosts in the machine
Spot a job candidate with an impressive profile? It might have been crafted by a ‘profile ghostwriter.’
News from X: This is what happens when you buy a company for $44 billion that’s now worth $12 billion — advertisers leave and no one wants to pay $8 a month for a dumb blue checkmark. X is now officially open to adult content, whether it’s AI-generated, photographic or animated. The rules? It must be “consensually produced and distributed,” labeled, and kept out of profile pics and banners. Maybe they’ll change the name to “XXX.”
7,470 Firefox tabs take up just 70MB of memory
That’s the buzz after one woman lost (and then found) the tabs in her Firefox Profile cache with help from X users. She said it took just seconds to restore them all. Firefox: The browser for tab hoarders.

More than you bargained for: Robberies are booming on Facebook Marketplace. Thieves bait you with hot items like cars and sneakers, then they jump you when you show up to buy. Step one is checking a seller’s profile to make sure it wasn’t created yesterday. Then, meet in a public place (police stations are best) and always bring a buddy.
What are you doing in there? Open the Google Maps app and tap your profile. Tap Location sharing. If you’re sharing your location with anyone, you’ll see their names here. Tap a profile, then tap Stop to quit sharing with them.
Tag, you’re it: Watch out for tagged posts from random people on Facebook. You can’t stop the tags completely (thanks, FB), but you can turn on “tag review.” That lets you review tags before they’re posted to your feed. Go to your Profile > Settings & privacy > Settings > Privacy > Profile and Tagging > Review tags. Hope you like Whac‑A‑Mole.
Wipe away the stuff you stayed up too late searching for on Instagram. Open the IG app and tap your profile pic in the bottom right corner. Tap the three-line icon at the top right > Your activity > Recent searches, then tap Clear all twice. Follow me at Instagram.com/KimKomando.
Facebook, feed me: Prioritize who you see first in your news feed. It’s easiest on your computer. Start by clicking your profile picture in the top right. Select Settings & privacy > Feed. Next, tap Favorites to select people and pages you want to prioritize.
Skip the cropped group pic or obvious selfie: For professional photos, go with a slight smile over your biggest grin. Pro tip: Blur the background so the person viewing your profile can focus on your face. If your phone has Portrait mode, use it!
