Protect your home with 20% off Kim's home security pick - and a month of free monitoring

I get calls, emails and messages all the time about home security. If you’re not protecting your home, you really should.

Sure, belongings are replaceable, but I know you have a few things at home — from family heirlooms to a piece of precious jewelry — that you can’t just pop into a store to buy again.

And then there’s your family. You want the peace of mind that they are safe and sound around the clock.

For years, I’ve recommended our sponsor, SimpliSafe. You order everything you need online, then set it up yourself in about 30 minutes. It’s super easy. That means no salesperson or installation crew bugging you.

Even better, I negotiated a deal just for you. For a limited time, save 20% on your SimpliSafe security system, and get your first month free when you sign up for Interactive Monitoring.

SimpliSafe’s award-winning system has an arsenal of sensors and cameras that protect every inch of your home. Tap or click here to see the five sensors we recommend once you’re ready to start shopping.

Then SimpliSafe’s security specialists take over, monitoring your home around the clock and ready to send emergency help the moment there’s an alarm. You can monitor it all from the easy-to-use app.

When you need them most, SimpliSafe is there 24/7, with experts trained to not only keep you safe but to make you feel safe. It’s one of the many reasons U.S. News recently called SimpliSafe “the best home security of 2021.”

Save 20% on your system and get your first month of Interactive Monitoring free. It really is a great deal. If you’ve been putting off the decision to keep a virtual on your home, stop waiting. The time is now.

How to get the best Memorial Day deal

There’s a load of tech deals online this weekend. Here’s how to tell if you’re getting the biggest bang for your buck.

She’s 99 and ☝️: Mildred Kirchenbaum has to deal with a TSA glitch. The birth date on a plane reservation doesn’t include the century, so when Mildred enters “23,” for her birth year — 1923 — the TSA thinks she’s an unaccompanied 1-year-old. I say give this 100-year-old a free first-class seat.

$12,500 award on eBay

It’s a 1990 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame statue given to the Kinks’ guitarist Dave Davies. The seller got his hands on it after Davies had a stroke and missed a storage unit payment. Looks like they figured out a deal, because the statue is marked as sold.

🍿 Movie deal: Parents, set up a new Uber for Teens account, and your kid can get a free ride to see “Inside Out 2” in theaters from June 14 to June 21. Open the app, tap Wallet > Promotions > Add Promo and enter INSIDEOUT2. Bonus: If you add your child to your Uber account between June 11 and June 17, you can also score two free movie tickets.

🚨 Fake news: News outlet BNN Breaking had millions of readers and a publishing deal with Microsoft. Turns out, they used AI to churn out error-filled, paraphrased news, making big bucks from clickbait (paywall link). The site went dormant in April, but they’ve since set up shop under a new name: TrimFeed. Stay away.

I’m a clover, not a fighter: A thrifty shopper found a $655 gaming graphics card in mint condition for just $8 at Goodwill. But don’t expect the same deal anytime soon; Goodwill usually flags high-ticket items to sell on their website instead. I’m stopping by the next Goodwill I see!

⚙️ Shifting gears: Mercedes is scrapping the entire division that was working on a 750-mile range EV. They’re still making EVs, but they’re not selling well. You can snag one at a darn good price right now. Oh, and Hertz is dumping 30,000 of its Teslas, if you’re looking for a deal on one of those.

Competition is a win for consumers: AT&T and AST SpaceMobile are joining forces to provide internet service from space. The deal runs through 2030. Starlink has a similar arrangement with T‑Mobile. More competition = Cheaper prices. Love when that happens!

$55,000 for an Insta

For a foodie account with 359,000 followers. You can find the “deal” on resale site Social Tradia. Wild guess: Most of the followers are bots, and the rest are gonna smash that “unfollow” button once they catch wind of a bait and switch. Pass.

TikTok (Taylor’s Version): Taylor Swift’s songs are coming back to TikTok thanks to a new licensing deal with Universal Music Group. They’ve ironed out the royalties and AI concerns for an undisclosed (probably astronomical) price. No more bad blood here.

Don’t buy an iPhone now: Apple’s doing a deal with the ChatGPT team to bring regenerative AI to the iPhone 16. This means the AI will learn and remember your likes and dislikes, just like a real (virtual) assistant. The iPhone 16 is expected to roll out in September or October. This will be the biggest iPhone update since it was first released in 2007.
