With their always-on coverage, surveillance cameras and video cameras are not just essentials for monitoring our homes and property, they can capture the most unexpected, the hilarious and the funniest moments, too.
And when it involves furry animals and family pets, the viral potential always seems to go up a notch. Take this clip that’s currently making the rounds. On the surface, it’s nothing but a short clip of something that you won’t write home about.
But thanks to the internet, it’s now one the first surprising viral hits of 2019.
Have you seen this?
Here’s the strange but admittedly cute moment a deer jumps over a family dog and lands on the front door.
The exact moment is so “Extreme Games-worthy,” it deserves a looping GIF for your viewing pleasure.
The surveillance footage of the deer’s derring-do was captured by a Ring video doorbell at a family home in Olathe, Kansas, on Dec. 27, 2018.
It shows the family’s puzzled black Labrador frozen still while the deer charges through, only to jump over the dog at the last moment.
The deer then checks out the front porch for a few seconds before heading back to the street.
The Red Hills, High Plains and Smoky Hills areas of Kansas are the stomping grounds of the mule deer and the white-tailed deer like our prancing friend over here. The population of white-tailed deer in these areas has reportedly dramatically increased in the last 20 years.
A porch pirate? Not exactly
How was this perfect moment recorded? Well, the Ring video doorbell has built-in motion sensors and it starts recording if it senses movement.
In this case, the motion sensors picked up the sprinting woodland animal on the street while it was approaching the home’s front door and automatically captured the moment for posterity.
The owner of the home, David Coen, said that he and his family were inside the home when the Ring notified them of motion on the front door. He only realized that it was a deer jumping over their pet when he reviewed the saved clip.
He later uploaded and shared the amazing video via Ring’s Neighbors app. Note: This service is a community-based feed that lets users easily share their captured videos with their communities.
Needless to say, the clip was so popular, it rose to new heights in the Ring community!
