Man jailed for putting child’s life at risk to get Facebook likes

People have been known to do some pretty crazy things to get attention on the internet. For instance, a strong gust of wind would have been a fatal ending to this extreme selfie.

Sometimes these attention seekers go too far, like the parents who lost custody of their children. As reported on Tech News This Morning, they posted prank videos on YouTube that were considered to be child abuse.

One man in Algeria did something cruel and unimaginable to get likes on Facebook. Be warned, this image you’re about to see is very upsetting.

He posted the picture below with the caption: “1000 likes or I will drop him.” The window that this child is being dangled out of is 15 stories high. There were no reported injuries.

The man holding the child was arrested and charged with endangering the child’s safety. An Algerian court sentenced him to two years in prison.

He’s a relative of the child and he says it’s all a misunderstanding.  “The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed,” he said. He claims that the protective bars were edited out of the photo.

The child’s father also pleaded with the court for forgiveness. He said it was just a game. Both of the men said that the child was never in any real danger.
