Popular iPhone apps…you’ve probably never heard of the most downloaded one

It wasn’t that long ago that smartphones weren’t a part of our lives. In fact, the first iPhone was only released about 11 years ago.

Even though these handy gadgets have only been around a little over a decade, they’ve already changed our lives for the better. We’re no longer chained to our desktop computer to conduct business, check email and shop online. Now we’re able to do all these things and so much more on the go.

Of course, to take full advantage of your smartphone, you need to have some helpful apps. Without apps, smartphones would basically be a more expensive version of a flip-phone.

New apps are released every day. If you’re not paying attention, you could miss out on some extremely essential ones.

That’s why you need to know these popular iPhone apps. Most likely you’ve never heard of the most downloaded one in the world.

Navigation has never been so easy

How did we ever find our own way around cities we’d never visited prior to GPS technology?

You’ve probably used Google Maps when traveling before. However, there are many features that you might not even know exist. Here’s one of my favorites:

Save your favorite locations

One great feature of Google Maps is being able to save favorite locations. This will help speed up the process when you are looking for a specific place.

Here are the steps to save a location:

  • Open Google Maps.
  • Find the location you want to save.
  • Drop a pin – This is accomplished by doing what’s known as a “long press” on the map. That just means pressing a specific spot on the map long enough for a red pin to appear.
  • Swipe up – Once you have “pinned” a location, a menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. Swipe up on that menu.
  • Select Save.
  • Select the list that you want to save this location to or create a new one.

Great way to beat traffic

Traffic is the absolute worst. Endless red lights, construction, accidents and gridlock on the highways are enough to drive anyone mad. Luckily, there’s an app that can help you get out of these jams.

Acquired by Google in 2013 for $1.3 billion, the Waze app is a crowdsourced GPS navigation app that pulls data and information from other Waze users to show you where the worst traffic jams, crashes and other obstacles are. If you know where the accidents are, then you can successfully avoid them.

Not only does Waze recognize your favorite routes and automatically give you a traffic report, it also has a great feature that allows you to share your routes with other Waze users. You can easily keep track of friends, family members and new drivers by sharing your routes with your friends on Waze.

The Traffic Bar is also pretty cool. It’s essentially a countdown of how long you’ll be stuck in a traffic jam. Let’s say you have three miles before your exit and it’s bumper-to-bumper. The Traffic Bar will estimate how many minutes it will take to get out of it in real time and count down as you go forward.

Popular app for cord cutters

When you think about streaming services there’s a good chance that Netflix is one of the first to come to mind. It’s come a long way since the early days. Netflix began as a rental company that sent DVDs to customers through snail mail.

Now, it’s one of the leading streaming services around. Whenever you hear anyone talk about cutting the cable cord, Netflix is sure to be a part of the conversation.

Netflix is the world’s leading subscription service for watching TV episodes and movies on your gadget. Get the free app as part of your Netflix membership and you can instantly watch thousands of TV episodes and movies on your device.

The streaming service has something for everyone. There’s even a safe watching experience just for kids with family-friendly entertainment.

The Netflix app is free to download for both iOS and Android, you just need a subscription to begin streaming. Click here to learn more and download the app.

Most downloaded iPhone app in the world

When you think of popular apps, Facebook, Amazon and Google Maps probably are some of the first to come to mind. You might be surprised to find out which app is the most downloaded on iPhones, though.

I’m talking about an app dubbed Tik Tok. Over the past three months, it’s been the most downloaded iPhone app in the world with nearly 46 million downloads.

It’s a combination of a music video making app as well as a social media app. That’s because it lets you shoot and edit short videos, and then you can share them with the world. It’s become a huge phenomenon lately, especially in China.

The videos last up to 15 seconds, but what someone does in them is up to their imagination. The app’s role is to provide music, effects and a way to share the videos with friends and others all over the world. Through the app, you can also watch what other people have created.

Included among its features are:

  • Facial recognition, with a high-speed image capture that will match your expressions.
  • Crisp quality, with videos loading instantly and without lag.
  • Mobile studio, which blends together artificial intelligence with image capturing in order to enhance your video with rhythm synchronization, special effects and advanced technology.
  • Massive music library, giving you the chance to take your show in a direction you never dreamed possible.
