9 reasons to choose an iPhone 7 over an iPhone X

You’ve been faced with one of the greatest challenges of the Digital Era. OK, that’s an exaggeration, but it is incredibly difficult to choose a smartphone.

You might be an Apple loyalist who’s always upgrading to the latest model. You might be an Android user or intrigued by an Android phone like Samsung’s Galaxy S9.

There are simply so many features to love on today’s smartphones that it can be challenging to make a decision. That even includes making a choice among iPhones, like its top-of-the-line iPhone X or an older model such as the iPhone 7.

There is a lot to like about iPhone X, notably its Face ID biometric security system and new lighting features for photos. But the iPhone 7 is a great smartphone and it has some features you might prefer over the X.

So, here’s a comparison of the iPhone X and iPhone 7 to help you see why the 7 might be better for you. Plus, you can help other Komando readers by adding a comment about why you prefer the iPhone 7 over X.

1. Price

If you’re a diehard iPhone fan, and you don’t mind spending $1,000 for the latest and arguably not-the-greatest iPhone, you’re probably reading this article on an iPhone X. That’s the iPhone that Apple recently rolled out and which Apple is using to try out its latest features, like Face ID (keep reading to find out more about that).

However, if you’re on the fence about the cost of iPhones, here’s what you need to know. The iPhone X has a suggested starting price of $999, although you can pay $49.91 a month with Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program.

The iPhone 7, in sharp contrast, is $549 and the iPhone Plus is $649 if you pay in full. Of course, you can pay less if you purchase one that’s been refurbished.

2. Colors

Apple is really good at keeping people guessing about colors, especially when they release some colors for a limited time. Still, the standard colors for iPhone X are only space gray and silver.

The iPhone 7 comes in five colors including rose gold and jet black.

3. Biometric security

Let’s face it, Apple is almost always setting the benchmark for smartphone security. It uses encryption, for instance, to make it nearly impossible for anyone to break into your iPhone.

That goes for Face ID, too. That’s the iPhone X’s facial recognition technology to unlock it.

To be fair, though, some users don’t like Face ID. It replaced the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that’s on the iPhone 7 and other iPhones because the iPhone X doesn’t have a home button.

Face ID scans your eyes until it recognizes you. When it works as it’s intended to, it’s incredible, but it so far is falling short.

4. Size

The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch display. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, though, has two sizes: a 4.7-inch display and a 5.5-inch display, respectively.

The iPhone X weighs 6.14 ounces. The iPhone 7 weighs 4.87 ounces and the Plus weighs 6.63 ounces.

5. Display screen

The iPhone X has a crisp, beautiful OLED display screen. The iPhone 7 also has a beautiful display, although it’s LCD.

iPhone X has a super-retina diplay with a pixel resolution of 2,436 x 1,125, or 458 pixels per inch.

The iPhone 7 has 1,334 x 750, or 326 ppi. The 7 Plus has 1,920 x 1,080 or 401 ppi.

6. Design

You’re not going to go wrong with the X or 7 when it comes to looks. These are beautiful smartphones – they’re sleek, thin and the display screens are simply stunning.

But you’ve probably heard that the iPhone X has a notch at the top that bugs some users. It’s a little black indention that somewhat mars the otherwise uninterrupted screen.

7. Operating system

You’ll be using the latest Apple operating system, whether you buy the iPhone X or iPhone 7. iOS 11 is the latest OS from Apple – Click here to read more about it.

8. Front camera

The iPhone X and iPhone 7 have roughly the same cameras. X’s TrueDepth camera has a few more bells and whistles, like portrait light and animojis.

The X’s front camera takes photos with 7 megapixels. Yet, the 7’s FaceTime HD camera is also 7MP.

9. Rear camera

You can take great photos of your friends with the iPhone X. It has a 12MP camera with wide-angle and telephoto features.

Guess what? The iPhone 7 has a 12MP camera with wide-angle and telephoto features.
