Kids are “Juuling” with what looks like a USB drive

If you are a parent or know someone who is, you understand the importance of keeping children safe. You want them to have fun while growing up, but at the same time, want to avoid anything that could endanger their lives.

Of course, as the world moves along it seems there are more and more ways for things to go wrong. Whether it’s outside forces or new technologies; unfortunately, nobody can guarantee anything.

That does not mean we won’t try, however, and because of that, it is important to understand something that can be quite dangerous but is gaining in popularity with teens and young adults.

Looks are deceiving

Have you heard of Juuling? Maybe you have, maybe you haven’t. The thing is, even if you saw it happening you may not actually understand what is going on.

A newer kind of electronic cigarette, a Juul looks a lot like a USB drive and even charges by being plugged into a computer. But instead of data, it contains an elongated vaporizer that attaches to a disposable pod filled with nicotine juice. Making them even more enticing is the flavors they come in, including creme brulee, fruit medley and cool mint.

According to Juul, their mission is to eliminate traditional cigarettes by offering adult smokers an alternative. Along with getting adults to move away from cigarettes, they say they are focused on combating underage use and say no minor should be in possession of a Juul.

Yet, they are popular among teens

But as is the case for pretty much anything, if you tell kids they can’t have it, they only want it more. Added to the fact that the Juul does not look like a conventional cigarette and is different from most electronic versions, it’s understandable why it would be appealing.

Though electronic cigarettes are generally viewed to be safer than traditional cigarettes and the Juul looks and tastes different, it is not exactly healthy or safe, especially for younger people. Each disposable pod contains the same amount of nicotine as an entire pack of cigarettes, with a concentration of 59 mg/ML.

In short, people using a Juul get a lot out of each puff. It can be so strong, in fact, Juul even explains to users that they should take things slow at first, easing into a Juul before finding the style of smoking that is right for them.

If you are concerned your child may be using Juul, signs include dry mouth, sensitivity to caffeine and maybe nosebleeds.
