Cyber Monday 2019: Best deals and where to shop

While the online nature of Cyber Monday might make it seem like a more relaxing shopping experience compared to Black Friday and its doorbusters, in reality it’s just as overwhelming.

Retailers announce their deals in quick succession immediately on the heels of Black Friday. Thousands of tech items are discounted and the clock is ticking as deals sell out. Tap or click here for the top 10 Black Friday deals this year.

To help you navigate Cyber Monday, we’ve narrowed down the tech field to 5 key items that will likely have the best discounts.

1. Smart home tech

In past years, major retailers, including Amazon, have matched their Black Friday prices for smart speakers, video doorbells, streaming devices and lights on Cyber Monday.

The intense competition between Google and Amazon, and the desire to make their products as gift-able as possible, drives prices down for Black Friday. Cyber Monday is another chance for these companies to drive as many purchases as possible while shopping fever is still in full effect.

Keep an eye out for deals from Amazon, the Google store and other major retailers that sell these devices.

2. Online courses and subscription services

E-learning companies and other online platforms get into the Cyber Monday spirit by offering discounts on courses and subscriptions.

Check out LinkedIn Learning (formerly known as Lynda.com), edX and Udemy to learn new skills for less. Rosetta Stone also has a history of offering discounts on its language learning software.

Cyber Monday is also a great opportunity to get discounts on subscriptions and free trials from companies like Spotify, Hulu, Tidal and Audible. For online course ideas, tap or click here.

3. TVs

Discounts won’t be as numerous as they are on Black Friday, but Amazon, eBay, Walmart and others will offer select sets for the same low prices on Cyber Monday. So if you didn’t act fast enough to snag a TV doorbuster, see if the set you had your eye on is discounted again on Cyber Monday.

4. Gaming bundles

There weren’t any new major gaming consoles released in 2019 (with the exception of the Nintendo Switch Lite). With less excitement in the gaming world, retailers could quite possibly have lots of remaining PS4s and Xboxes left in stock — and try to move them with Cyber Monday discounts.

Last year, some of the exact same Black Friday gaming bundles (consoles packaged with games and other accessories) made a return on Cyber Monday. Expect the same this year. Plus, if you’re on the fence about buying a VR system, check out Cyber Monday deals. Last year brought up to $100 off Oculus and HTC Vive systems.

5. Computers

Best Buy, Dell, HP and Lenovo all run Cyber Monday sales. And good news for those who didn’t quite pull the trigger on a Black Friday laptop or desktop: In past years, these retailers have offered repeats of some of their Black Friday laptop and desktop deals.

Lenovo has already announced some of its Cyber Monday deals (at the end of its Black Friday ad) and will offer up to $1,200 off select machines with different doorbusters launching every hour starting at 12 a.m. ET on Dec. 2.

HP has also released a Cyber Monday ad that’s very similar to its Black Friday ad. Many of the same laptops and desktops are on sale, and some of them have better specs than the Black Friday doorbusters.

If you’re comparing a computer deal you missed during Black Friday to a Cyber Monday doorbuster, be sure to carefully check the specs. A much lower Cyber Monday price could indicate a downgrade in RAM or other features, so read the deal’s fine print in detail.

When will these deals go live?

Whatever you plan to buy, start watching for Cyber Monday deal announcements Thanksgiving week. Some retailers might announce their plans as early as midweek, while Black Friday hype is still in full effect. Others will wait until the weekend.

The best way to stay on top of things is to sign up for your favorite retailers’ mailing lists or follow their social media pages. That way, you’ll be in the loop about all deals and online promo codes. BlackFriday.com will also be posting Cyber Monday ad and deal lists here.
