We barely beat Amazon to the punch when we showed you leaked photos of the newest Alexa-enabled device. Just yesterday we reported that an Echo with a touchscreen was on the horizon.
It turns out, the leaked photos and rumors were right! It does have a 7-inch display, better speakers, a camera, and it will be available in black and white. Keep reading for more details on Amazon’s Echo Show.
“Echo Show – everything you love about Alexa, and now she can show you things” is the tagline for Amazon’s new device. In addition to everything that Alexa can already do, the Echo Show will also play videos and facilitate video calling.
Want to jam out to your favorite song? Alexa can play it for you and put the lyrics on the screen. Need to know what’s going on in the world? Alexa will play video flash briefings from your favorite news network. A little lost in the kitchen? Alexa can play cooking instructional videos. You can use it as a monitor for your security cameras too.

What you just saw is only the beginning. Since Alexa is built on the cloud, she’s always learning. She can already make dinner reservations or call you an Uber. Amazon said they’re constantly adding new abilities and skills.
The Echo Show has two 2-inch Dolby stereo speakers and eight microphones on top of the device near the on/off and volume buttons. The device is 7.4 in. x 7.4 in. x 3.5 in. and it weighs about 2.5 pounds. There is a 5mp camera above the 7-inch screen. In order to work, Echo Show needs to be plugged into an outlet and connected to Wi-Fi.
Although Amazon announced the Echo Show this morning, it won’t be released until June 28. Each one costs $229.99 but there’s a promotion where you can you can save $100 if you order two. Click here if you want to pre-order the Echo Show.
However, starting today everyone can now use the Echo or Echo Dot to make phone calls to other Echo devices! You can also dictate messages to your Alexa and the Alexa on the receiving end will read the message to the person you’re trying to communicate with. If that person doesn’t have an Echo device then they can still receive calls and messages through the free Amazon Alexa app. And it’s completely free!
