Safety alert: Home Depot ceiling fans recalled after reports that blades flew off
If you pay close attention, you already know that products get recalled by government watchdog agencies all the time. Some recalls are pretty minor and others could cause serious injury if not addressed immediately.

While fire hazards are definitely serious, the latest product recall takes things to another level. We’re talking serious injuries in a worst-case scenario.
Watch out for the attack of the ceiling fan!
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a recall for ceiling fans that could cause serious injury: The Hampton Bay 54-inch Mara indoor/outdoor ceiling fans. These fans were sold exclusively at Home Depot stores nationwide and online at homedepot.com from April 2020 through October 2020 for about $150.

According to CPSC, the blades can detach from the fan while in use, posing an injury hazard to consumers. In fact, there are already multiple reports of this happening.
There have been 47 reports of the blade detaching, including two reports of the fan blade hitting a customer and four reports of the blade causing property damage. The last thing you want is to have to dodge rogue fan blades.
This recall includes ceiling fans in the following finishes: matte white, matte black, black and polished nickel. The fans came with a white color changing integrated LED light and remote control.
The following UPC numbers for the recalled ceiling fans are printed on a silver rating label located on the top of the fan housing assembly:
- Matte White – UPC# 082392519186
- Matte Black – UPC# 082392519193
- Black – UPC# 082392599195
- Polished Nickel – UPC# 082392599188
How to find out if your fan is recalled and what to do next
If you have one of these fans, you should stop using it immediately and inspect yours using the King of Fans website’s instructions. There is also a helpful video that walks you through the process of inspecting your fan.
