Ford trucks recalled – they need this software fix
Car recalls occur more often than you think, and they happen for many reasons. For example, a manufacturer might find that a certain part wears out faster than expected and can put drivers at risk.

This latest recall is a bit more serious. A software glitch in popular Ford trucks could lead to dangerous driving conditions.
Nearly a quarter-million F-150s recalled
Ford announced it’s recalling more than 217,000 F-150 trucks due to a headlight switch software problem.
Here’s what’s happening: When the low beam headlights are turned on manually, daytime running lights also stay illuminated. That means both sets of lights are on at the same time, making the F-150 headlights too bright. This could make it difficult for other drivers to see properly and increase the chances of a crash.

Which models are affected?
Recalled vehicles include Ford F-150 models manufactured between Jan. 5, 2017 and Oct. 10, 2019 that are equipped with LED headlights.
Ford will send out notifications to those who own affected models, but hasn’t announced when those notifications will start to roll out. Keep an eye out and once you receive the notification, simply take your vehicle to a Ford dealer to have the software updated.

How to find out if your vehicle has been recalled
There is a really handy website that will let you know if your vehicle has been part of a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has a recall lookup page and it’s super easy to use.
Just have your vehicle’s VIN ready and visit the NHTSA’s website. If you’re not sure how to find your VIN, the NHTSA site has instructions on how to find it.
Once you’re on the site, enter your 17-character VIN into the search box and click on the magnifying glass to run a search. Results will show the number and type of safety recalls that apply to your vehicle. If you don’t get any results, your vehicle isn’t part of a current recall.

Finding out your car isn’t part of a recall is great news, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be part of one in the future. The NHTSA also offers an email notification system if you want to receive messages about recalls. Sign up at the NHTSA’s website.
