$100 for a tank of gas? Top 10 most expensive vehicles at the pump
Gas prices have been hitting record highs, and it’s getting more difficult to justify a leisurely drive to nowhere.

Depending on what you drive, you could spend far more or less on fuel than the average motorist. Let’s look at the vehicles that’ll cost you the most at the pump.
Bigger is not always better
Consumer Reports tested a wide range of vehicles and how much it costs to fill them up. The top 10 priciest vehicles were all full-sized SUVs or pickup trucks that cost more than $100 to fill from empty.
These large vehicles are thirsty, averaging just 14 to 17 MPG. Plus, they have enormous fuel tanks that hold up to 28 gallons. That’s a recipe for a large bill at the pump.

Whether you drive a lumbering SUV or compact car, your habits behind the wheel affect fuel efficiency. Follow these tips to reduce your vehicle’s fuel consumption and a couple more ways to save:
- Cash-back credit cards can help offset the cost of fuel.
- Sites like Gas Buddy can show you the best fuel prices in your area.
- Don’t forget to check prices at less traditional fuel stops such as Costco, Sam’s Club or BJ’s.
