Worried about the harmful effects of technology? This major watch company wants to help
A legendary name in watches is joining efforts to protect people from the harmful effects of today’s technology. The watchmaker is stepping into a growing market.
A number of small companies are selling products that claim to shield you from technology’s ill effects. As far as cellphones go, most researchers say a conclusive link that ties the devices to brain cancer has yet to be found.
Read on to find out what this major company is trying to protect the public from. And one expert offers some common-sense advice.
Timex steps into the electromagnetic protection market
There is a growing market of products meant to protect the public from electromagnetic waves. There are claims that the waves cause a host of conditions and illnesses.
Now, Timex is offering a watch it says blocks radiation from electronics. The main feature of the watch is a copper chip developed by the Swiss company Teslar.
According to Timex executives, the chip emits an impulse the creates a biofield around the person wearing the watch. Timex claims the watch may reduce stress caused by electronics. The watch is being marketed as a way to “enhance the immune response in the presence of EMF (electromagnetic field).”
The watch is part of the Timex Group Luxury Division. And the price sure reflects that. It retails between $600 and $1,500 dollars and will be sold by Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus starting next month.
Other companies that sell tents, hoodies, socks, magnetic discs and more have sprung claiming that their products can block radiation from electromagnetic fields and waves. No one is making any promises as that would put them on the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s radar.

Are electronic devices making us sick?
There have long been concerns about cellphones causing brain cancer, especially now with 5G on its way. However, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) reports that no conclusive connection between the two has been found because the gadgets, along with household items like microwaves, emit non-ionizing radiation, which is low frequency.
By comparison, ionizing radiation is high frequency, which is why patients and technicians wear lead vests during procedures like X-rays, where that energy is emitted. Too much exposure to ionizing radiation can cause cancer.
But some researchers are looking at the health effects posed by being surrounded all day by non-ionizing devices. This year, a group of researchers asked the United Nations to call for greater protection from the proliferation of non-ionizing devices.
They continue to argue that the cumulative effect of non-ionizing radiation on humans has not been studied enough.
Researchers continue to wrestle over the effects of electromagnetic waves on the human body. While they do that, a growing market of products meant to protect the public from electromagnetic waves is rising.
James Finn, founder of Elexana, a consultancy firm that analyzes EMFs for various companies, said he is heartened to know that more medical experts are starting to question the health effects on a public bombarded every day and everywhere with non-ionizing radiation devices.
But he’s no champion of these new companies creating products that claim to block radiation. Finn said a little common sense goes a long way.
