Design your dream home with this easy-to-use 3D floor planner
Forest green or olive? Your bare, beige walls need a pop of color but you just can’t decide. Or maybe you’re wondering if that chase lounge will add a touch of class to your living room or overpower the space. Instead of guessing paint colors or worse, returning items that don’t live up to your expectations, try virtually mapping out your home design projects. Amikasa is a free 3D room designer app that can help you redecorate. It uses augmented reality to help you visualize the changes. It’s really easy to get started. The first thing you do is select the shape of the room you’re working with. Is it a classic square or something funkier like a T-shape? If your room shape is so unique that it isn’t listed then create a custom floor plan. Next, set the dimensions for your room; the more specific the better! You wouldn’t want to set your heart on the perfect dining room table only to find out later that it’s just about a half an inch too wide for the dining room. Then comes the fun part! Use the color wheel to mix and match and find the shades that work best together. There’s a catalog of different flooring options too. Drag and drop in furniture, then rotate and reposition it so that it’s just the way you like it. See something you like? Click on it to be taken to a webpage where you can buy it! And now for the cool part! When you’re happy with the setup, activate Walkthrough Mode. Like looking at a 360-degree video, hold up your phone or tablet in the room you’re decorating. As you look at your screen, tilt and pan the device to get a virtual view of your newly redecorated space. Once the room is perfect, you can share it via social media so that your spouse or roommate can approve the designs. It’s also synced to the cloud so that you can come back to it later. Unfortunately, this app is only available for Apple devices. Click here or click the blue button below to download it for your iPhone or iPad. If you have an Android device, then try this similar app called Home Design 3D.
