Best time to buy Apple or Samsung phones
If you think about it, we’re in a strange era to be smartphone users. Not that long ago mobile providers would give you a free smartphone, or at least let you purchase one for a deep discount when you signed a new contract every couple of years.
Those days are over and it couldn’t be worse timing. That’s because prices for the latest and greatest gadgets are skyrocketing.
If you’ve been paying attention, you know that to get your hands on Apple’s iPhone X with 256GB it will run you $1,149. Yikes!
Samsung’s Galaxy S9+ isn’t much cheaper. For the 256GB model, you’ll have to shell out nearly $950.
Since Apple and Samsung make some of the best devices, they’re always in demand. Sometimes, finding good deals on the tech gadgets that we desire is an art form.
That’s why you need to know when it’s the best time to buy Apple or Samsung phones.

Patience may be rewarded
As we said earlier, finding discounted pricing on the latest and greatest phones these days is like searching for Big Foot. Very rare and hard to believe when it happens. Anyway, there are some tricks that you could use to possibly get a better deal.
One way is to resist the urge to be the first person on the block to have the new device. Patience may very well be rewarded.
Apple fans already know that the tech giant typically announces its newest gadget in the fall. It divulged information on the iPhone X in September 2017 and released it in early November.
You can expect a similar time-frame this year. Apple will most likely hold another special announcement event in September and the new iPhone, whatever it’s going to be, should be available shortly after.
This will be a good time to check with your carrier for a discounted price on the iPhone X. With new inventory on the way, they will be looking to get rid of last year’s model. Out with the old and in with the new as they say.
For Samsung users, you can expect the same type of situation at nearly the same time of year. It typically announces new smartphones at the end of summer/beginning of fall.
The Galaxy Note 8 was released last August and rumors have it that the Note 9 will be released this August. (Note: The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ models were released in March 2018.)
So if you don’t mind having last year’s model, waiting until this year’s version comes out could save you some money. Even if “only” a couple hundred dollars.
Drastic measures may be called for
Mobile carriers used to reward loyalty by giving its customers deals on new gadgets. Signing a new 2-year contract could score you a new phone, or one at a greatly reduced price.
As we said, those days are over. Which is why you might want to look into switching carriers.
Companies like Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are always trying to lure new customers with special deals. Check with one of your mobile carrier’s competitors to see what they can offer you in terms of new smartphones.
You might be surprised by what you can get. Some are offering new customers up to 50 percent off the new iPhone X and others are offering buy-one-get-one-free on new devices. Make sure that you’re really getting a good deal before hastily making the move.
Remember, this could be your only chance to get that new gadget at a discounted price. So be sure to get the best offer available.
