2-plus hours

Time per day the average person spends “dreamscrolling.” This is when someone’s looking at things online they can’t afford and want to own someday. That time-suck works out to an average of 36 days of “dreamscrolling” a year. I can think of 50 better uses for my time.

Your data: It’s all posted online - But there's a simple way to remove it

A loyal reader, Racquel, emailed me recently after dealing with a very angry customer at work. “Last week, she left me a voicemail and said that I was behind all her problems and she was ‘going to find’ where I lived.”

Big Tech is tracking your emails

I have three different work email addresses — and a Gmail address I set up when it launched in 2004. I could never score the handle again today, but after 20 years, that inbox is a mess.

It’s become my disposable email address for coupon codes, free signups and newsletters — pretty much, the nonessential things in my digital life.

How to set emergency contacts for iPhone

I hope you never need to use them, but everyone should set up emergency contacts. I’ll walk you through the process. It only takes a minute!

🌞 Sun-spiracy: Some popular influencers don’t believe the sun causes skin cancer (WSJ, paywalled); instead, they blame sunscreen. Research proves sunscreen protects you from cancer — it doesn’t cause it. I posted a pic of me by the pool the other day. I can’t believe some people didn’t get my sunscreen pun in the caption. Please tell me you do!

💃 Finally, some respect! TikTok teens are asking their moms to bust out their best ‘80s dance moves, and for once, it’s not for laughs. The videos have racked up tens of millions of views, and Gen Z is genuinely impressed. What’s your favorite ‘80s dance hit? Mine’s “Take on Me” by A‑ha!

Child ID theft is on the rise: If you’re not on the lookout, you might not catch it for years. When your kid goes to rent their first apartment or get a student loan, they could find they’re already thousands of dollars in debt. Protect your kid’s credit now — I’ve got steps on how to do it on my site.

👯 #Twinning: At age 66, Devlin Donaldson used a “digital twin” to reverse his Type 2 diabetes. OK, not a literal twin — the Twin Health app, which uses insights from your diet, activity, blood glucose levels and more to give you hyperpersonalized advice. The instant feedback helped Donaldson lose 40 pounds and go off medication. This is why I love tech, folks!

Tesla, meet train: A Tesla driver nearly crashed into a moving train when his car failed to brake in self-driving mode. His dashcam shows him swerving at full speed just in time. Just three years ago, Tesla’s image rank (a measure of its brand reputation) was eighth among the top 100 companies. Now, it’s plummeted to No. 63. Can’t imagine this is helping.

🚨 TikTok vape dealers: TikTokkers are illegally selling vapes to kids using secret codes to trick parents. Red flag phrases include “elf bundle” (i.e., an Elf Bar vape), “ALL FAKE” (used to slip past Communist China censors) and “#noID” (no identification required). If your kid recently got hair scrunchies, beauty products or candy in the mail, check the package.
