Practice safe sexts: Instagram says they’re going to start blurring naked pics in direct messages for anyone under age 18. Those who attempt to send a nude via DM will be advised to be “cautious.” Once again, social media tries to come off as a good citizen when it’s the problem.
Check, please: OpenTable’s getting rid of anonymous reviews. Starting May 22, they’ll show your first name and profile pic next to your spicy comments. Want to scrub your history before they yank the tablecloth out from under you? Here’s how to remove reviews and delete your profile pic.
Zip it: If your phone rings and someone says, “Can you hear me?” or “Is this [your name]?” hang up. Scammers record your “Yes” to create voice authorizations for bank account access. Bonus points if you report shady numbers to the Better Business Bureau’s Scam Tracker, too.
🔥 Hot wheels: Millions of 2010 to 2017 Hyundai models, including the Santa Fe and Elantra, and Kia models like the Sportage and Forte are ticking time bombs due to a fire hazard recall. With not enough parts to go around, fixes are delayed until at least June. The current solution? Contact dealers only if you see warning lights or smell smoke. Gee, thanks.
🚨 Crypto ATMs: Notice those colorful crypto ATMs in a gas station or convenience store? Scammers direct victims to them because the transactions are anonymous and it’s a lot easier than collecting gift cards. PSA: Report scams at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov and https://www.ic3.gov.
Ruh-roh: Roku leaked info for 576,000 accounts in their second security breach in a month. They’ve reset passwords and will notify affected users, refund any sketchy charges and make you set up 2FA. Watch out for phishing scams, phony texts and calls claiming to be Roku.
